Place the cursor where you want the clip to go, then choose Insert / Time. Enter the length of the clip or a little more if uncertain. This will open up a hole at the cursor position. Plop the clip in the empty spot. If there is space left over, you can double-click in that empty space to highlight it then press the Delete key to close the gap.

OR you can use the ripple edit feature to slide everything after it down, then insert the clip and then slide everything back.

I've started using the ripple edit today, and i found it a little to get used to, but it did help me greatly in some things. Here's what I did:

I split about 5-7 minutes of an interview into the good pieces and cut out the junk (ir um's and silence). I then arranged them the way I wanted. I didn't use ripple edit for this because I was getting annoyed with it constantly moveing things left/right.

Next, I wanted text events inbetween some clips. So, I encabled ripple edit, then would drop/drag my event into the timeline. It automaticly bumped everything to the right the length of my test event. I edited the text, sliced it as long as i needed, then deleted the unwanted portion. Media moved to the left to compensiate.

:) hope that helps in the future.

Another method I use to insert time is to place the cursor where I want to insert, right click-->select events to end, and then drag the entire timeline to the right. When you do this however, you need to remember to also move events on other timelines (such as titles and music). Do this by selecting events along the cursor on each timeline holding down the shift key, then right clicking and selecting events to end. Hope this helps.
