Need to have Sony Vegas platinum recognize my camc

I know you are all pros, please help a newbie get started. I have a mere Sony camcorder DCR-HC28. I have a Belkin cable with the firewire port, XP and am still having touble acquiring images from my camcorder. What else do I need to know? It's important that I get started submitting some video resume material.

You posted another thread to which there were replies, but you did not follow-up. Did you try any of the suggestions? What were the results?
