wiscoy wrote on 12/5/2002, 5:43 PM
Hi gang.. my canopus advc 100 arrived today and I am having trouble with the installation. Are there no drivers to install with this?

I plugged it into the exsisting firewire card and Win xp told me I had new hardware... but now the Hardware wizard is telling me it wants drivers to install.

Can anyone help me with this?

thanks,
jill

sorry guys.. I went over to the canopus forum and researched what was happening.. I think I got a unit that is buggy. Found this thread,

http://forum.canopus.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=GenADVC&Number=18812&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

and it is the same problem I am having. My device manager is seeing it as a AV/C monitor. Looks like I'll have to return it and **WAIT** for another one. :-( To top it off VF arrived today too... I installed that and it looks pretty darn nifty. I hate to have to wait to play with it. :-(

I'll let you all know what happens..I'm sure I'll be back with some good VF questions once I'm up and running.

Thanks again for all the help I have received here.

Jill, don't return it until you've tried it. There should be NO drivers to install. VidCap will see it as a Microsoft DV VCR/Camera. That's all there is to it. Nifty, huh?

Hi Chienworks.. I looked in the device manager and it sees the canopus as an AV/C monitor.. it is the same *bug* that they were talking about on the Canopus forum.

I emailed a screen shot of the device manager to canopus tech support and they coonfirmed that it is a defect, and that I need to send it back to them to be re programed.

Oh well.. VF looks so interesting..I am itching to fool around with it. What a difference from that Video Wave stuff that came with the Dell Bundle of Trouble. I'll just have to wait a little longer I guess........... maybe I can snag a DV camera from a friend and just shoot enough with that to fool around with until I get the canopus back. ;-)

ttfn,
Jill

Jill,

There is a "sample" project that comes with VF. You could fool around with that and start to get some practice in! No need to stop your creativity. Make a backup copy of the porject first! The project is called something like "My Alaskan Trip". Even if you just prieview it from the timeline, you'll get a reeeally good idea what's going on. I did.

There's also the tutorials to browse through - neat!

But yes, getting a DV cammy would reeeeally do it. Then you might find you like it soooooo much you will want to buy one - THEN you might think hmmmm.... why am I getting an analogue convertor - "Oo er Missus!" - Confused, you will be.

I've just got my Canon XM2 [US=GL2] and it's a DV-Cammy, no problem with capture or PTT. The VF transport controls are spectacular.

Have fun,

Grazie

thanks for the tip about the sample.. that will give me something to do. NOW I know I should have bought the digital last yr (instead of the analog) The $300 I'm paying for the converter would have made up the difference. Oh well...a day late. as they say.

I'm going to go play with VF now. ;-)

talk to you all later.

Jill -

Just a creative thought - You could also start creating some "Photo" projects. VF can import scanned or graphical images (tifs, bmp, jpegs(?) etc etc ). You could start adding music; Pan/Crop ther stills into a moving and worthwhile project. You couls also start playing with text and text rolls! There's loads you can do! If you got photoshop or any artsy package you can mix in some masks and stuff - yeah?

It wouldn't be wasted time 'cos you would be getting used to VF and finding your way around.

Have loads of fun!

Grazie

ps - just got the way forward to getting Vegas Video! Yaaahhhhoooooo.....!

Absolutely right! I have been playing with my Video Factory by scanning in photos, and trying out all of the features available. It's awesome
