Nero gets BDMV authoring certification

I also use VLC player for playing back highdef mpeg2 video.
Always found it starting up full 1440x1080 (same as Nero) a pain, then you have to resize it on the desktop. Since my HDV is interlaced there are other settings that I use which gives nice smooth playback of hd-mpeg2 interlaced video using VLC. I normally use Linux and these switches also work on XP & Vista when using VLC.

These are the command line switches so VLC starts 1/2 size (double click for full screen) and also to de-interlace the video using linear blend.

vlc --zoom=.5 --vout-filter=deinterlace --deinterlace-mode=linear
(make sure to put a space between the parameters, before the " -- " )

So just make another shortcut on the desktop and add the above commands.
Works nice on my systems, the interlaced HDV videos I've shot that have alot of movement playback fine using these settings.

Love these free players that work. Haven't gotten VLC to playback avchd/h264 properly yet.

Merry Xmas

OK, so now - using my Vaio's BD burner or my worksation's regular DVD burner, Vegas, MF6.0 plus, and WindDVD for playback, I am now able to burn and watch:

- full datarate BDs (of up to 35 Mbps), on BD-R and BD-RE's
- AVCHD on regular DVD (in HD DVD or BD formats)
- any combination of the above

My only reservation is with the HD DVD disks as burned on regular DVDs with MF6.0 plus; they're give considerably lower quality picture on play back that the AVCHD files from Vegas, used to burn them! Therefore, I'm not sure whether MF re-encodes them or not; of course I'm setting exectly the same parameters as in Vegas on AVCHD rendering (15Mbps, UFF, 1440x1080), and check "Do not re-encode compliant MPEG files", but still it takes some time to create the disk image... And, its quality IS lower thaqn the input AVCHD video!

4eyes, how do you ensure that they not be recompressed? And BTW, which is the exact build number of the MF you have? Mine is 6.10.0194.3 - I do not have the option to choose AVCHD for a new project, only HD DVD Standard, DVD, VCD and SVCD

- plus of course BD in BD DiscRecorder (build 2.70.0047.0)

Perhaps you have some newer version? Oh, and in VLC I didn't manage to play back AVCHD in VLC, either.

megabit,

My version 6.10.0194.6 (you got 3 as the last number).
I install all these updates after I installed DVDMV from original CD.

Installed in this ordere:

1. dmf6_patch_supportavchd.exe - 3.6 MB
2. DMF6_Full_Patch2_E.exe - 128.3 MB
3. dmf6_hdpack_e.exe - 128.3 MB
4. UVS11_DMF6_HotFix01_Install_Issue.exe - 1.9 MB

You are probably missing some update. You can download them from Ulead website.

Hi, and thanks for the info; it seems like everything can be found on Ulead websie BUT:

3 . dmf6_hdpack_e.exe - 128.3 MB

Everything else I have installed, but it must be the above that changes the version up from .3 to .6 - is there a way for making this patch available for me? TIA

Piotr

You have to buy this for $19.99. I think it worth twenty bucks.

Yep - I'vebought the upgade and now have the AVCHD option. Is it normal that it's not possible to just create folders/image (these options are inaccessible)?

MozartMan,
4. UVS11_DMF6_HotFix01_Install_Issue.exe - 1.9 MBYou do not install the Install patch IF MF installs. You are only supposed to install that patch if you cannot perform the original installation of MF6+ (read patch instructions). I guess your not having problems.

megabit,
Before purchasing the HD-Add-On pack you could only make HD-DVD's for menued disk formats. If you used the avchd videos as your source videos then MF6+ converted them to whatever your "Project Settings" were set for. So the avc/h264 was probably converted back to hd-mpeg2.

With the add-on pack you should be able to now make avchd disks and BDMV (Blu-Ray) Disks.
When making the AVCHD disks you must burn a dvd.

With the HD-Add-On pack you have a few options:
If your just performing harddisk playback then you can use avchd videos in the BDMV module (blu-ray disk) module (or hd-mpeg2). Then create BDMV folders on the harddisk. Then play that back from the harddisk (or burn a blu-ray disk).
Just make sure under the "GEAR" Icon to check on both "Do not convert mpeg" and "XDisc" (Both).
This will prevent compliant videos from being re-encoded.

4eyes,

This is all very nice - but I cannot actually burn an AVCHD project on a DVD-RW disk! I've tried several disks, and MF exists with the error message when "Fomatting" that "Generic error has occured".

What can it be?

PS Actually, I guess it might be Nero inCD resident program that prevents MF from normally using rewrittable DVDs. I burnt a DVD-R for testing, and it works well.

I use Nero to either quick erase or full erase rewritable media before reusing the disk in another application. Sometimes with DVD-RW I've had to perform a full erase which is very time consuming.
But usually a quick-erase works. I've burnt to dvd-rw, dvd+rw, dvd-r & dvd+r_DL. So on mine MF6 does works burning these dvd's.
Lucky for me I have stacks of 100 packs of dvd-r's rated 4X, low cost, great disks for testing.

It will be nice when SCS puts out some authoring packages.
I don't like having to much other software installed on the same computer, just my opinion.

I guess one more thing might be important to those burning AVCHD DVDs: those burned with MF6 play best in yet another software player I have - the WinDVD BD that comes with the Vaio laptop.

With the players mentioned earler in this thread (Nero Showtime and PowerDVD), the AVCHD DVDs sometimes have problems.

But frankly, only after I burned a 35Mbps, 1920x1080 clip from the EX1 (downloaded from DVINFO), and compared this to all sorts of HD DVDs and AVCHD on regular DVDs, I can see that it's the full-spec BD that clearly is the winner!

4eyes, or anybody using MovieFactory 6plus -

- did you manage to install it under Vista x64? I cannot do it... On the Ulead pages it's said that both 32 and 64Bit XP is supported, as is Vista - but no mention which version...
