nero to the rescue again!

I recently upgraded to vegas 5 and DVD2,,, I went to burn A DVD and it doesn't recognize my burner... Is there a fix for this? Do I need an external burner? Any advice would be great,,,, Thanks,,, I burned the DVD in nero.. along with text that I couldn,t create in CDA5.0,, Granted ,,I'm sure there are plently who are happily using DVD and CDA but for the money,, I'm begining to wonder.. ...

What's your burner? I cannot burn a DVD-R with the Plextor we have in one of the machines but the other three with Pioneer and Sonys always work just fine.

It's a generic QSI CDRW/DVD burner on a gatewal laptop.,,, never had a problem concerning compatibilty with other software.... Thanks,,

Try the following...
1. Options | Preferences...
2. Click the General Tab
3. Check "Skip drive database; autodetect drive capabilities"
4. Press Ok
5. File | Exit
6. Relaunch DVDA

We'd, of course, recommend the Sony DRX-530UL. However, DVD Architect software has been tested with a wide range of drives and should work with most DVD recordable drives.

Is the device not available or does it cause an error when you try to burn? If an error occurs when you try to burn, can you please post the error details?

For what it's worth, I've never used DVDA's internal burning engine, preferring to rely on Nero to burn my DVDs (I've always been a firm believer of the "use the right tool for the job" philosophy). Sure, it's an extra step, but it gets the job done without fail (and as we all know, "it works" is probably the highest compliment you can give to a software product).

Same here, I just use Nero. This was originally driven by DVDA-1's apparent inability to work with the Dell-branded version of the NEC ND-1100A. DVDA-1 never produced any error message, it just acted as if it burned (but in an incredibly short amount of time), but never really did a burn.

I have not received DVDA-2 yet, but given I'm use to using Nero, I'm not sure I'll even bother trying to burn with DVDA-2.

There are no error messages,, The box next to device in select burn parameters is, simply,,grayed out,, it doesn't recognize my drive..... All said,, you understand how I feel ...spending alot of money for a tool and it doesn't perform a simple procedure, It seems alot of people have the same problem,,Can we pursue a fix on this matter?Will the Sony DRX -530UL function properly on my Gateway P4 laptop? Which version of Nero do you use? Nero Express burns non-playable discs when I try to use DVDA Video_TS and Audio_TS files with it. And that's with every setting tried in Nero Express. Same files burn perfectly and play perfectly with DVDA 1.0 on all players.
The same thing happens with Record Now Max 4.5 Non-playable discs using DVDA files.

DVDA also incorrectly (IMO)adjusts 1x setting to 2x. I have tried it many times and 2x always takes the same amount of time as 1x. Those non-compliant discs I mentioned above take twice as long to burn using 1x settings in Nero Express or Record Now Max as they do in DVDA 1.0 which led me to that conclusion.
I have posted this several times since the release of DVDA 1.0 and have not gotten an answer except........"that's impossible". In fact I just posted this a few days ago on another thread here and also got no response.

this whole 1x,2x,52x thing is interesting. I recently bought a Plexwriter for mastering audio CDs. It can burn at 1x BUT pretty well no modern CDs can be burnt at that speed, the slowest I can get the burner to burn with gold audio master CDs is 4x. Post burn tests reveal an extremely low error rate, bumping the burn speed up to 8x increases the error rate slightly but still well within spec.

You might ask what this has to do with burning DVDs but they're basically the same thing as CDs and from what I've determined a given drive - media combination can mean that you cannot burn below a certain speed as the laser cannot be throttled back far enough. So I'd suspect you're asking DVDA to burn at 1x but after the write calibration phase it determines that a burn at 1x is not possible so burns at 2x.

Thats the best explaination I've come up with so far.

I'm currently using Nero v 6.3.1.6. I use the default DVD-video burning template (selected from the left hand window of the New Compilation screen). I don't touch any of the default settings.

I burn DVD+R/RW discs. My Dell-branded NEC ND-1100A writes at x4/x2.4 speeds, and I always let Neo burn at the maximum allowable speed for the media I'm using (i.e., x4 for DVD+R and x2.4 for DVD+RW).

Yes,, I burned the DVD in nero,, There is a mis -understanding somewhere,, could it be my installation of certain updates concerning adobe audition or Wavelab, Are you aware of the fixes for these apps concerning the matter when either wavelab or audition doesn't recognize your drive?I have also installed the update for ASPI,, Maybe this has an impact on the default specs for gateway...

OK.here are some specifics,, I can insert an AVI file in DVDA2 and prepare it as aDVD file.. I can't burn it to disk though,,which you know.. Now,, In nero I can perform two functions,,(in the nero version express 2 ). I can either creat a mini DVD project via inserting an AVI file or via video capture, Then burn it to a CD-r disk,(no problems) When I re- insert the disk in my computer it recognizes it as a DVD file.... The other function is ,,I can insert the DVD file I created (prepared) in DVDA2 into nero version express 2 and have the same results no problems,,,, One other thought is maybe nero offers an embedded fix concerning drive compatibility,, (not sure)

DVDA does not support burning to CD-R or CD-RW. That's why your drive is unavailable.
