Nested event changes project fr to event fr?

Gid wrote on 6/29/2024, 11:11 PM

Hi, I've been playing with BCC+Retimer ML which is an fx for slowing down footage for a slow mo effect, (or speeding it up), that isn't exactly what this is about tho, I'd like to know about nesting.

A Boris video about BCC+Retimer ML mentions adding a black solid to the end of an event, nesting both events, you then have space to slow down the clip & still keep the full duration of the event. This works well but the nesting changes the project to the event fr which is 120fps (119.880), Can I stop it changing the project fr, I want to keep it at 29.97fps ? I can just change it back but ..

You don't need to add a black solid generator to use thst fx.

You only need to keyframe the speedand extend the event as needed.

Gid wrote on 6/30/2024, 12:00 AM

@GJeffrey The event loops if you do that with the fx, I'm not looking for an alternative way to slow it down like keyframing the speed of the event, what's the point of using the fx otherwise,.

The event loops if you do that with the fx

@Gid Right-click -> Switches -> Hold to disable the event loop, and it's recommended to create a subclip in advance.

The framerate of nested projects is determined based on the default framerate. However, if the nesting functionality is provided by a script, it should be able to keep the current project settings.

@Gid. If you select a speed of 50 in BCC retimer and extend the event to twice it's original length, there is no loop at all.

And you actually do need event looping to make it work.

@zzzzzz9125 Thankyou 👍, I wish I could change the orig OP & delete the bit about Retimer, I thought I made it clear I'm asking about nesting not the fx.

@lan-mLMC Thankyou, yep normally there doesn't seem to be a problem when using events with different frame rates in longer projects, but doing this test it reminded of one time when this did happen, at the time I thought I was doing something wrong so when it happened this time I thought I'd ask.

The previous time I was creating a simple short intro, a video with some added text etc , it's a while ago but I must have been using a clip with a different frame rate to the project.

Similar to this,

  • I normally film & work in 29.97fps, but occasionally film in 59,94,
  • So I set the project to 29.97 so it will match my future project.
  • I drag in a clip that just happens to be 59.94.
  • I click No to adjust because I want to keep the project 29.97.
  • Nesting changes the project FR. 😒 (Changing the nested fr properties makes no difference, the main the Parent timeline still gets changed)

This bug seems to only happen when your project is simple.
This bug doesn't seem to happen when your project has other media clips that are not used to create a nested timeline.

@lan-mLMC Indeed, having just one other media clip on the main timeline that is not part of the clip (or clips) that will be used to create a nest, and the main project FR is OK (=not changed by the nest clip FR)

case 1: project FR: 25fps, with 1 clip 29 fps, no nest, project OK

case 2: project FR: 25fps, with 1 clip 29 fps, make nest, main project changes to 29 fps (NOK)

case 3: project FR: 25fps, with 2 clips: clip one with 25 fps, clip 2 with 29 fps, make nest of clip 2, main project stays 25fps (OK)
