net renderer stuck in "queued" state

I am running V5b on both systems. I have a liniksys router. My edit machine is w2000, my renderer is XP.

I can ping from both sides and it looks fine. I can start the network render from my edit machine and it appears to be working fine. On the render, I see the status bar and if I open the render service, I see the job in the list, but it says the status is "queued". Nothing ever happens. If I try and kill the server, it hangs and I have to kill the process.

For testing purposes, I made a simple project that has 1 minute of generated media. Not external files.

If I start the network rendering, I then go to the render machine and the status/message frame pops up and shows a progress bar correctly. But the status in the server shows queued always. Once I see one progress bar run to completion, it says "failed: 00:00:22". That is all it says. It never does anything else.

So even with the most basic rendering of generated media, it fails. I dont get anything in the log about why it failed. This is pretty useless for figuring out what is wrong.

I tried using two diferent XP rendering machines, and I get the exact same results. Sometimes, I get some progress bar on the status of the render and the "failed" message, and other times I dont get anything. But in the server, it always says "queued", and nothing ever happens.

I can connect to all the devices involved from all machines without any problems.

thanks
Bryan

I have exactly the same problem with 5.0b. using XP pro. Both my machines sit in "Status: Starting" .... forever. Anybody have any idea?

Well I found the fix that worked for me! Make sure all of your computers DNS Suffixs are the same. The second xp machine I was using did not have the DNS suffix set, after makeing it the same as the main workstation it all works!!!
