I have been network rendering using single computer, all of a sudden I am getting fails on the renders, the renders prepares bit then proceeds no futher , I have no idea what has changed, the only thing that has changed is in the box for network rendering options, the check box for the option of distributing is not available t be checked if that makes sense, I am desperate to complete the renders for a televison series that is going to air, we are in urgent need of a solution.

Why do you network render on one single computer? why not just render normally?

We had tried that but got memory error failure, this network render using the host only, is amazing and has worked perfectly, also you can continue working on projects for different versions, when it works its a wonder. Now its not so great,

another good reason to network render on the host is so you can batch a bunch of different renders. Just send a bunch of render jobs to the network host and it will do them in order.

I do this all of the time.

1) Delete and re-enter the network Renderers addresses every time. They do not "stick" correctly.
2) Make sure you a logged on through the network as a user before attempting to connect network rendering.
3) On XP machines, turn off "Simple" File Sharing. Search the internet, as this is a rather obscure setting.
4) Make sure the network rendering protocols are allowed through Windows Firewall.
5) Turn off Vista UAC (User Account Control).
6) Make sure you are running as Administrator on the host machine.
7) Make sure all antivirus programs on the host are turned off. Just a routine definition update can screw up network rendering.
8) Make sure host/render drive letters have not changed due to external drives being plugged/unplugged.
9) Check your router security settings. Reboot the router.
10) As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall Vegas, or roll back using System Restore to a known good operational point.

That is probably as close to a comprehensive checklist as you will get. Sometimes just a routine Windows update will tank network rendering.
