Network Render Mystery #2

mfnmfn wrote on 8/17/2004, 7:20 AM
Just clocked up another 3 months of flawless network rendering and then suddenly one of my servers fails to initialize the network render service. Eror message "The network render service may already be running on this host. To run multiple services on the same host, configure them to run on different port. The application must exit."
Now 3 hours into diagnosing the problem I am no further enlightened. I can say categorically that the service is not already running! I've even tried configuring for a different port...no success.
Has anyone encountered this? Searching the forums has turned up nothing.

I've been checking daily for the last week for anyone who can solve my mystery..but no replies. A full workload has meant that I really haven't had the time to devote to this annoyance that reduces my render productivity dramatically.

Just half an hour ago I had one of my render machines require a reboot...nothing dramatic (a firefox crash). After reboot, the render service failed to initiate. I received the same error message as my main server has been displaying for a week... "The network render service may already be running on this host. To run multiple services on the same host, configure them to run on different port. The application must exit."

It would be nice to have access to documentation that explains the error message...It seems to me that if someone wrote the warning code then surely there's an explanation for the error.

So with no docmentation and a little time on my hands I decided to uninstall Vegas from my render machine (I can't afford to tinker with my critical installation on the main server).....Did a full reboot and re-installed. Attempted to start the render service and same old message.

Can anyone give me a lead...

You could try sending a message to tech support via the Support -> Email link at the top of this page. They seem pretty slow right now, but eventually they might provide an answer.

when you get this error - hit ctlr-alt-delete - PROCESSES - look for VegSrv50.exe right click on it choose end process ...make sure there aren't any other VegSrc50 running - close them all... once they are stop .. now click on your NRS shortcut to run NRS ( do not start from within Vegas )

when you start your computer you might check to see if it is already running in background ?

do you have the Vegas 5.0b update on all of your systems?
