network render "no disk" error message

i am frequently getting the following error message during network rendering.

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.

i click continue a few times and the render continues. in addition to my main vegas machine, i have 2 renderer hosts. only on one of these is where i get this error. it doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time when starting a network render. i've rebooted this machine and still get it.

any ideas on what is going on?

When I get wierd disk errors like that I always check the event log. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer

Go into System and check for red X's. If any of them talk about disk controller errors or "delayed write failed"... then you'll want to figure out which drive it is talking about and consider replacing it. At least make sure you back up your data - cuz it might be on its way out.

i had already checked this. it just shows the same error with no additional information.

i put a disc in my ZIP drive and have done several tests since then. this seems to have fixed the problem. i read somewhere that windows treats ZIP drives more like a hard drive than a floppy, so i decided to give this a shot. seems to have worked.

maybe someone from sony can tune in to see if this makes sense?

update - ever since putting a zip disc in my drive, this error has not returned during network renders. just thought if anyone else had a zip drive on a network render client machine, they might want to know. with CDRs so cheap, i haven't used my zip drive in years.
