Network Render: strange problem

I've recently setup network rendering. I've followed the instructions and the forum help topics fairly closely. So, I start a network render, and I get no error messages. However on my single render machine, which has a mapping to the host render box, after the small render progress window pops up it remains "stuck" at around 0%. It does this schizophrenic dance like the progress line will move forward, but it never does. And it remains stuck at 1 of 2. The log for the node shows no errors and remains at where it started when I began the job, "Label: Beginning Render Job: \\pc\Data\Vegas\Render\4-28.avi". I have a drive mapping to the host box with admin rights. And as stated there are no error messages in the network render window of either the host or the node. The host is working fine. When I look at the log I see a whole bunch of Label: Completed x of 91 segments (in ascending increments). Am I supposed to wait till Label 91 completes? If so why are all of them happening on the host box? When does the work get divided up? Thanks.
