New Blue FX VMS 10

datrix wrote on 6/18/2010, 8:28 PM
I just purchased & installed VMS 10 plat & the New Blue FX were not installed or located. Should there be a download link for it in my account ( there isn't one) or does it get installed along with VMS10?
I have a free New Blue Cartoon FX that I installed so I have a New Blue Effects folder, looked & nothing in there either..

Thanks

Did you purchase the Production Suite version? The New Blue effects only come with the Production Suite version.

Here is an interesting observation. I have the new HD Platinum 10.0 but not the "suite" version. I still have VMS9P installed. When I checked v10 I found all the NewBlue stuff - the Cartooner effect and the 6 transitions. Perhaps I had better not uninstall v9.

Thanks, I didn't upgrade to the Suite version. I thought the NBFX were included as the previous upgrades were.

KenJ62, you're right. Always leave older versions of Vegas and their plugins installed. They can co-exist, and upgrades will detect the old plugins.

If this is the case, i.e. if VMS 10 really detects the New Blue FX plug-in from the earlier VMS 9 Platinum, for me the only advantage of the Production Suite would be the Vocal Eraser which comes with Sound Forge 10 within Production Suite. Can anybody assess this tool (Vocal Eraser)?

I believe the Vocal Eraser is one of the new goodies in SF10 (to entice you to spend the extra money). I couldn't find a reference to it in SF9. You might ask on the Sound Forge forum. I have no need of this but it occurs to me that you might be able to search for a suitable tool at little or no cost.

I have tried it out. It works better than I thought (tried it on an mp3 music file). You still hear an faint echo, but you can also use it to keep just the voice and eliminate background. So, it is a nice tool for the toolbox.

Also, there are different NewBlue FX -video, audio and transitions in V10 than there were in v9 or v8. There is a post in the forum where a list already detailed what the new FX were.

Also don't forget about stabilizer!

I find the following making it worth the upgrade:
1) stabilize media: works really well
2) noise reducer (newblueFX): works really well
3) mp4 rendering with GPU (nvidia only): 25% faster rendering

In the past 1) and 2) could only be realized with 3rd party plugins, costing $50 each at least.

Thanks. No question for upgrading. I've been using the trial and really like it. In particular stabilizer and DVDA 5 for the authored blu-ray production. The doubt concerns the choice between Production Suite na simple HD 10. The more so that I've not received a discount offer (I've mailed SCS and hope an answer will come).

Dear Ivan123 I see that You really like WMS10 but all you say about is only very positive.. Why promote it in technical forum?? Are you paid for it?
I don`t want to be a bad guy but I am trying to point out weak places so this product we all spend money for is getting better.
In my point of view :
1/ stabilize media is not very useful because there are no real controls, no preview, it ads jello effect into my videos. It can be fine for You and others, but i suggest to test it first with specific material.
2/ Noise reducer is very demanding and slow unless we work with SD footage.
3/ GPU acceleration could do like 100+% improvement but it does not.

Milos,
By clicking on my name you can access my older posts. If you do, you'll see that I'm very critical of VMS.
VMS9, I always stated, was not worth the upgrade compared to VMS8.
Also in VMS10, there are some things I don't like.
1) ProTitler is not included
2) AVCHD preview playback could be done better, the least SCS could have done is to build in a transcode workflow
3) GPU implementation could be better too
I'm not on Sony's payroll.
Still, I would advise anybody starting with video editing to choose for VMS, and those running olders version (6/7/8) should definitely upgrade.

I'm hopeful that future patches of VMS will improve some of the issues that already have come to the surface.

1/ stabilize media is not very useful because there are no real controls, no preview, it ads jello effect into my videos. It can be fine for You and others, but i suggest to test it first with specific material.
--- I have been waiting for this since version 6, and I like how it works. The jello effect only occurs when extreme shaking occured. Here are some of my tests:

2/ Noise reducer is very demanding and slow unless we work with SD footage.
---- NewblueFX are heavy on cpu, always. You should look at the NewbleuFX website and look at their pricing too. You'll appreciate VMS even more... Again, I have been waiting for this since version 6. It was ridiculous of SCS to ad a plugin 'add noise' but to "forget" a plugin to denoise...
3/ GPU acceleration could do like 100+% improvement but it does not.
--- Let's hope that future patches will improve this.

Why promote it in technical forum??

@Milos, this is a USER forum, not a "technical" forum. Tech Support is HERE. SCS employees don't lurk here, to report problems you must use the Tech Support link. Posts here will only be answered by fellow users.

Oops! I missed the fact that the NewBlue item list was different vs v9. The noise reduction filter alone would have made the 'suite' version worthwhile to me.
Milos Janata wrote on 6/20/2010, 2:11 PM
Thanks for the reaction Ivan. I check your test and suggestions about stabilizer.
@MSmart , I hope they read it at least, otherwise how could we do a suggestion for particular improvement or bug report? I check that official support page then. Thanks.
