new camera ideas

I was wondering what some opinions might be about the purchase of a new camera. Budget is a more than a little tight with a cap of $1000 but I know that I am needing/wanting a camera with 3CCD. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Right now I am using a Panasonic PV-GS14 (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panasonic-DV-GS14-Camcorder-Review.htm) and while it certainly isnt a pro camera, it has done just fine for a beginner.
So.. what'cha think?

My first camera for personal use was a Sony Handycam TRV330.

What pro features are you looking for? For less than a grand you add
"PRO" accessories and may come closer to what you need.

I added a Beachtek mic adapter with phantom power. A Coken filter
holder with sunshade. Upgraded my tripod.

I would jump at the chance to buy another Sony PD170. Fanastic color
and everything built in. Used you should be able to get one around
a grand. Many people are jumping to HighDef so you need to decide
if that is the route. HD will come down in price so can you wait?

A quick advanced search on eBay looking at completed auctions shows the PD170 selling around $2K. A PD150 can be found around $1K and a 3CCD TRV950 is under $1K.

The big difference between PD150 and PD170 is 150 2 lux vs. 170 1 lux
feature wise same.

Sorry I should have looked up the price, the 170 has held
it's price from new better than I thought.

I've used the 950 for 3 years with no probllems. The color is not as rich as the 170, but it has most of the features with smaller chips. I would get another if the budget fit. But I also want more than i can afford. John
