New Computer for Vegas Projects

I've been struggling to edit AVCHD footage for a couple of months now but I'm going to give up gracefully having just realised that Vegas can't burn an AVCHD SD disc in any event.

I thought that Vegas could burn such a disc because the PMB software which came with my new Sony camcorder CAN make an AVCHD SD disc and I read that Vegas could deal with AVCHD but it turned out its very choppy to edit and can't burn AVCHD to SD disc.

Anyway, I think I'll bite the bullet and get myself a computer with a blue ray burner and here's the question. What spec computer do I need to get smooth AVCHD editing? I don't want to buy new hardware and still find editing the footage a nightmare.

Indeed is editing AVCHD always going to be a problem whatever the spec unless its a machine the size of NASA's

Thanks

No, AVCHD with Vegas Platinum version 10 is fine on a recent PC. Any recent non-Celeron desktop PC with 4 GB of RAM should be fine.

What are the specs of the machine you are using now? I would suggest a 4 or 6 core processor and at least 4GB of RAM. Also what version of Vegas are you using?

I'm not sure what the processing power is. It's a seven year old Sony Vaio Desktop. I have 2GB of RAM for sure (This is the maximum for this machine)

Oh and I'm using VMS Platinum 10 Studio so I guess this is different software to that used by Eugenia

Start / Settings / Control Panel / System ... in the lower right corner this will display your processor type and speed.

Hi,

Can you please expand why it should be a "non-Celeron". I have just bought my daughter one, and it can't be any worse than my Compaq 6910p with Intel Centrino Pro can it?!!!

Thanks.

Is that to say that VMS9P won't work with AVCHD?
