New FX, plugins, etc?

abelenky wrote on 11/3/2006, 1:21 PM
Vegas MovieStudio came with a nice set of basic video effects, etc.

I believe the architecture permits other, 3rd party effects and tools to be added (ie: SpiceMaster has some plugins that came bundled with my purchase).

But as I search the web, most of the plugins seem only to work on full-Vegas, not the Studio (VMS) version.

Are there plugins and addons available for VMS? Anyone have some favorites they'd like to recommend?

I had luck with wax some people couldn't make it work
www.debugmode.com
That was in platinum 6

Thanks. I tried DebugMode's Wax software, but it wouldn't work on my system, so I assumed it was Vegas-Only (not VMS).

If you can get it to work, I might give it another try.

P.S. I'm using VMS 6.0, with all the upgrades (I think that's currently 6.0b?)

What about NewBlueFX? There was chatter here a while ago, saying some people liked it. I downloaded it, installed it, and never did figure out how to use it. Is it for Vegas only, not VMS?

Part Deux: If it IS for VMS, how DO you use it? Thanks!

It looks like NewBlueFX is aware about the differences between Vegas and VMS. For example by looking at their products, the "New Blue Art Effects" and "New Blue Motion Effects" to say for Vegas and VMS, but the "Equalizers" and "Essentials" show Vegas 6.0.

I would have to say that for that compay, if it does not say VMS, then it will not work.

Yes, all NewBlueFX work in VMS. You can download trial versions from www.newbluefx.com. We also have a free effect, Halovision, that you can download and enjoy.

Where can you find out what effects are included in the newblue fx that come with VMS 7 platinum?

Sorry for the late reply; I had missed this.

The NewBlue effects and transitions bundled with VMS Platinum include the complete Art Effect collection: http://newbluefx.com/art_effects.html as well as three transitions from our new Motion Blends collection: http://www.newbluefx.com/motion_blends.html.

You will find a setup program for these plugins on the Vegas Movie Studio CDROM. To install, put the CDROM in your computer drive. It should open a menu with a series of options. Click on "Install NewBlue MSP Effects and Transitions".

Once the plugins are installed, you can access them by opening the Effects or Transitions windows from the View menu.

Hey NewBlue:

The videos won't play? The ones on this page:

http://www.newbluefx.com/art_blends.html

I was trying to see what they do?
NewBlueFX wrote on 1/2/2007, 2:35 PM
The videos display using the Windows Media Player ActiveX plugin. You should see a transport bar with a black screen above it. Click on the play control to view the video.

In IE, you need to click once on the screen to activate, then click on the start button.

If you don't see the controls, then the plugin isn't loading. Please check your internet setting to see if ActiveX controls are disabled.

You can also download the transitions and try them out on your own videos: http://www.newbluefx.com/try.html.

Well, of course I have it, I can view videos on any other site I have been to. These don't play. I don't want to download demos until I see what they do. But gee, thanks for inferring I am so new at this as to not know about ActiveX.

My sincere apologies for the slight; that certainly wasn't the intention. We tread the fine line between assuming too much and intimidating people with technical jargon or asking "duh" questions that are very obvious to savvy people like yourself. And, there's so much to know that people can be selective where they put their gray cells. I know a guy with an MS in computer science and 22 patents and he couldn't program a VCR to save his life.

Anyway, we've run into quite a few problems between different browsers and media players.

As if to prove the point we just discovered that the latest windows media plugin has a problem with our content on firefox. It wouldn't show the controls and wouldn't run. We just fixed it.

Please try again and let me know. If it doesn't work, please let me know what browser and version of Windows Media Player you are running - you can help us get to the bottom of this problem.

Thanks!

I use Firefox 1.5, windows media player 9 and have also tried in IE 6.0. No dice.

How about a link so I can download them? Are they wmv format?

I also have DSL so time to load shouldn't be a factor, it isn't anywhere else.

This thread caught my curiosity so I thought I would give it a try. Worked fine. (Fascinating transitions!). Mouseover indicates that I had to click the "Play" button once to activate the control and then click it again to actually play the clip. Kinda confusing, but I guess that is how Microsoft set it up.

I'm running latest IE 6 with WMP 11.

Paul:

Glad they worked for you. I tried both browsers, and tried your suggestion. Guess I am out of luck.

Guess I will look for transistions elsewhere.

Thanks!! I will look at them when I get back from the airport!!
