New install - download from site or use DVD?

I just got the Vegas 7 + DVD boxed software and want to do the cleanest install possible as I just did a fresh install of XP on my new editing workstation.

As the DVD sent in the box from Sony does not have a version #, I assume it's the original release. There have been two subsequent releases already.

Is there any problem with downloading the trial, which is version 7b and using my serial # with that, so I don't have the clutter and registry buildup generated during upgrades?

Same question for DVDA.

Jeff,
Don't download the trial. Go to the 'Downloads - Update' page and get the latest non-trial versions. That'll be a full install of Vegas 7.0b and DVDA 4.0a.

They do appear to be the same. Both pages do say build 151 & 134MB.

I will download the one from the downloads-update page.

Quite right. The builds are the same, but I believe that some things are disabled in the trial - such as AC3 (Dolby Digital) encoding.

ac3 & mpeg are disabled in the trial because you need a seperate liscence for those. So.... the difference is that the trial will run for 30 days w/o purchasing it. The upgrade won't it needs your SN to work.

I think a good thing is that when Sony make upgrades, you always download fullversions, so that you can use them for a new install too.

On Liquid, that I am used to, the fullversion is huge, so they only give addons as upgrades.
