New Issues with Project Media after Upgrading

JReynolds2000 wrote on 6/21/2020, 2:50 AM

I am on Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17, but I assume this is somewhat applicable to Vegas Pro, too.

I recently upgraded from version 12, and the way that the project media works in this version is bothering me in two big ways.

First of all, many of the video sources in the project media fade in from black at the start. In version 12 it would skip this fade-in and show a relevant thumbnail for the media source, but in version 17 it takes the first frame as the thumbnail, making many of my sources indistinguishable from each other aside from their names until I hover over them to scroll the preview. This isn't as dire of a problem, but does anyone know if there's a way to change this back to how it was before?

Second of all, sometimes a video source in my project media will be cut off at a random point when I add it to the timeline. I can't simply make the video longer to get the rest of it, as it seems to have made a new ending point. I accidentally solved this once already, but it's reoccurred and I've forgotten how to solve it. Does anyone know the solution so I don't forget? I can't just remove the source from the project media because oddly enough, it's being used beyond the new ending point elsewhere in my project with no issues.

As a side note, is there any way to add settings to a source in the project media so I don't have to apply the same video/audio effects every time I want to use it? This is entirely unnecessary but would be very helpful.

Because the forum wants me to include information about my setup: Acer Aspire A515-51G, 8 GB RAM, Intel Core i5-8250U CPU @ 1.6-1.8 GHz, Windows 10

That's because you can already trim a clip in the Mediatab and if that will happen depends where you put the mouse pointer.

That didn't help at all. I tried clicking and dragging over the video previews of other source videos, and it didn't change anything when I added them to the timeline. Plus, when I open up the actual trimmer for the messed up source video, it shows the whole video, which is not reflected when I add it to the timeline. Is there any way to fix this temporarily, and is there any way to change it back to how it was before? Video previews aren't really important to me, and if I want to trim a video, I'll just use the timeline or the actual trimmer tool.

No problem to do that by drawing both trimlines back to the original place, just the other way around you maked them not knowing what you did.

It turns out that I had accidentally clicked on the left edge and drawn it to the right edge one time when I was just trying to drag the video onto the timeline, making it 0 frames long. That's why I "forgot the solution" from when it happened before, because last time I didn't drag it all the way to the right, so it left a line in the middle that was way more obvious. Just fixed that issue now, thanks for the help on how to do that! (But why were these new options that make things more inconvenient for me than they were in earlier versions forced onto us, and why isn't there any way to turn them off that I can find?)

It is a new option and it was your own decision to buy the program, nobody forced you to do so.
I showed you already how to overcome your ( and others) problem
