New Sony 3CCD HD camera = possible new updates for Vegas 5

I was reading this article on DVINFO

http://www.sony-europe.com/PageView.do?site=odw_en_EU&page=PressReleaseDetail§ion=en_EU_Press&pressrelease=1079021485605

(sorry I'm kind of pressed for time my html sucks so no hyper linking)
and it says

"The demonstration will herald the fact that Sony plans to introduce a new camcorder, display and video editing equipment based on the brand-new HDV format. When the technology becomes more widely available on the market it will be possible to enjoy shooting and editing high definition video with all the benefits of this new format, most notably its very high picture quality."

Just wondering if Vegas will be the NLE they are talking about and if this means an update like 4.0 ver B or was it C that gave us the 24P editing and output and those cool new features.. Just wondering?

Most probably.
HDV is targeted at the prosumer market and Vegas is a prosumer app.

Sony owns vegas and will also make an HDV camera. Seems logical to me.

Anyone knows where I could grab some hdv footage from the JVC, I'm very curious to compare the quality with dv25.

The scuttlebutt I hear is the camera will be introduced next year, not this year
and do to the extreme cost of the HDV lens ($8000.00) the camera will cost
$15,000.00.

that would suck
Hope it will have 24p at that price.

Well as an off topic aside Main Concept just released their "Mpeg Pro" plug-in for Premiere Pro. (http://www.mainconcept.com/mpeg_pro.shtml)

What is interesting about this is that Vegas already has some of this built in however if you want to "HD" version - it says this: Although this version does not offer HD acceleration, it allows editing of HD video. The high-definition performance depends on system capabilities and the free demo version makes it possible for users to evaluate the performance on their own systems. With the HD version you can capture directly into Premiere Pro from JVC’s JY-HD10U camcorder.

So Using Main Concept MPEG (Which Vegas already uses) now Premiere Pro users can "capture directly into Premiere Pro from JVC’s JY-HD10U camcorder." So an educated guess would be that Sony will put this feature into another "update"...hopefully free and not costing $349.00 like the adobe add-on.

Yes there are, but Vegas has used Main Concept codecs "native" for a while now, usually they update them when any "a" "b" "c" etc release come out. I think it semi-ironic that Vegas 5 comes out as 5a and it doesn't have the ability for, at the least, HDV capture when it seems like Main Concept is allowing for this with an add on to Premiere - at the same time.

It is a sick iinsestious world at times isn't it?

This article here says that it beleives that it will be under $5000 no chump change by any means but not much different then an XL1s or DVX100

Here's another data point for the Sony HDV camera: One of the Sony guys at the booth said they were aiming at a retail price of $7k, with introduction around Christmas '04.

Its ironic to me that the lens would be such a stumbling block for HDV.
Considering that all the lenses on still cameras are up to over 3000 x 3000 resolution, and cheap at that.
