New to digital video - jvc premiere question

Hello,

I'm new to digital video and just recently I bought a jvc gr-dvp7 digital camera. This camera doesn't appear in the supported hardware list. What does this imply? Does anyone have any experience in using this camera with vegas?

I'm still in doubt if I should buy the pinnacle dv500 + premiere pack or go for a separate firewire card with vegas. (I use win 2000) What is the best choice in view of the future and compatibility? I don't have experience with either of the programs, so which one do you people rate as the most userfriendly?
A lot of people don't seem to care much for premiere, but I understand it is widely used in the industry?

Any views and recommandations are very welcom.
Thanks in advance, Danielle.

SoFo doesn't have a "recommended" list, they do have a list of devices they tested. The key to using a digital camera is the IEEE 1394 (firewire) interface. Vegas Video should work properly if your interface card is 100% OCIC compliant. You don't need anything but a simple plain Jane interface card that shouldn't cost more than $30-40 tops, you can find several even cheaper. I use SIIG. Works flawlessly. http://www.siig.com/

A lot of "professionals" use Preimier. Many once they find Vegas they become converts. The reason many start out with Preimier is its been around a long time. Vegas Video is comparetively new, but runs circles around Preimier, has better, simpler to use features and a dream interface. Many people, me included find the Preimier interface clumsy.

Both Adobe and SoFo offer free trial downloads. Try them both. I'll wagger you'll pick Vegas Video as the one to buy. <wink>
