New (to me) error message rendering MVI (AVC) files.

Hi all,

I'm using VP14 Build #201. I've been trying to render out some .MVI (AVC) files, and as soon as I click the button, "Render as," I get this message: "Exception thrown by method called." And the option to click "OK." This is before I even get a chance to insert type of file to render as, or any other choices in the render. The clips play fine on the timeline.

The camera is a Canon EOS M3. Glad that, if this had to happen, it happened with just a couple of trial clips, before I did any extensive editing work. Same file types work in SVP13.

Suggestions?

ADDENDUM! Apparently, it's not just the above file types that are a problem. I just tried rendering a veg project I had previously rendered successfully (though slowly) on VP14. Different camera. Got the same message as above.Something has obviously been corrupted.

Hi Nick, and thank you for your response. Now it gets more weird. I had tried what I described above, multiple times. Same result. Just tried it again (both the EOS M3 files and the veg file from a different camera (C100 mk2) that had previously rendered OK. BOTH working now. I didn't change anything; didn't reboot or anything.

Is there any way to determine what, if anything, the graphic card is doing while you are rendering?

Try GPU-Z. I've never used it personally but I've seen others use it to monitor GPU activity.

Hi Nick...We're thinking along the same lines. Just before you sent this, I download a program call TechPowerUp CPU-Z 1.14.0, and now trying various settings to see what, if anything the GPU is doing. My initial test (running another now without GPU) indicated that GPU was utilizing less than 1 gig (about 850 mb). It is an AMD 4 gig DDR3 card. XFX Radeo R7 240.

OK, Nick, Just ran some tests. With GPU Acceleration OFF, GPU Load 100%, Dedicated Memory Usage 673mb. GPU Core Clock 0Mhz. GPU Memory Clock 0Mhz. Estimated completion time for rendering 2 1/2min video with my usual (heavy) plug-ins: 37 minutes

With GPU acceleration ON, GPU Load 100%, Dedicated Memory Usage 674 mb; GPU Dynamic Memory Usage 90 mb. GPU Core Clock 0 Mhz; GPU Core Memory Clock 0 Mhz. Estimated completion time for rendering 2 1/2min video with my usual (heavy) plug-ins: 37 minutes. (About same as above)

All of this leads me to believe that the program is utilizing the motherboard onboard GPU, and not the AMD GPU, even though VP14 recognizes the AMD card in the settings.

Addendum...Though Windows System Device Manager says the device is working properly, there is this notice, under System Information: "Device PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6617&SUBSYS_72401682&REV_C7\4&b77c4c1&0&0008 requires further installation.e" I have no clue what that means, though I will call XFX tomorrow. There is one support guy there that really knows his GPU stuff, and SVP too, as his father uses it.
