New User stupid question number one

lcstonemvp wrote on 11/24/2003, 4:34 PM
DVDA when making multipe pages of menu's - when the user selects an chapter on say menu page 3 , watchs it and decides that they wish to go back to the menu, DVDA always goes back to the start menu rather than the menu they just left. Then they have to go back to say page 3 and repeat the process. Is there anyway to have the user return to menu they just left instead of going all the way back to the first menu? If this has been covered somewhere, I will be happy to go look up the answer.

Thanks

Yes this has been covered somwhere - and you could go search for the answer....but, I'm in a good mood so here is the answer that you are looking for:

Can't be done.

Hope that helps.

Watch for the introduction of the "end-actions" ability, something that has been much pined-for here in the forums.

Hopefully in the next release, but no one has promised anything...

Thanks much for your answers. This one thing makes DVDA quite problematic for me. I only wish I had picked up on that before I purchased. Oh well, maybe a new version will address this customer usability issue.

...of course the 'work around' on this is to not build such menu heavy DVDs that force a person to have to go that deep.

I did a DVD with a good 30 chapter points, but it only made sense to put like 5 or 6 on a page. So...getting to start point blah blah blah on page 5 was a pain.

So I cropped everything down to 6 chapter points.

Maybe it will get addressed in later updates. I hope so. But the app is still very much worth it.

I agree that in some situations you can compress to 6-8 chapters. However, the beauty of a DVD for a dance recital is that the little ones can go direct to their number. Now in the latest recital I did, the hour 15 minute program had 21 numbers. That is a minimum of 4 menus. Those poor kids in the last few number will have to work hard to get to theirs.

Oh well,

Once you have the scene selection menu pages, you can copy the page and place it anywhere.

You can create 4 buttons on the top level, which will get you directly to the lower pages. This way, all 21 little ones will have 2 menus.

You can also have a large number of links on the main menu page that takes you wherever. Be creative people. For example if you have a DVD of some team event or a recital you could have a group picture as a background for the main menu, use invisivble text links similar to how a image map works on a web page.
