New work to share - Stonefield

Hey all,

It's been awhile since I've shared some work so I thought I'd take this opportunity to do so.

I was hired by a major beer company here in Canada - Labatt's - to cover one of their summer pool parties and cut together a little internal promo for them. The cross promotion was with Stella Artois beer and I was there to shoot the party and show people dancing and having fun.

A great gig that may turn out to be a recurring job...here's hoping.

Lot's of fun with this, and of course, all done in Vegas 5.

I put to use Mike Crash's smoothing filter that helped with some of the low light footage. So thanks go out the him. He's got some great filters, thanks man.

The file is kinda big because there is a lot of movement in the frame here and that really looks horrible when compressed too much.

Feedback welcome of course. And thanks for viewing...

Nice work as always, Stan. The low light is readily apparent, but it still looks very good.

Spectacular. Nicely shot, beautifully edited. Music is awesome too. Your clip makes it hard not to feel the heat at that party. I don't even know what to call all the things you used in post but I know you used them well. I love the motion blur and distorted, then clear, Artois logo at the end. I assume you shot this with your trusty Canon Elura. Amazing. Thanks for sharing your great work. (your file is large, but streams just fine on cable internet)

Perhaps something like "Warning - You have to be 18 and over to view this video!" The noise is very noticeable, and I keep on thinking that VX2000 would look better.
I didn't see the whole video, as it's not to my taste (beer and bitches!), but besides the noise, I would say that it is technically OK.

P.S.: Just checked your website a little bit more, and I keep thinking "Stan Howard - Howard Stern".

I thought the noise added something to the piece. I know Stonefield had full permissions, but the noise gives a kind of spycam feel to the piece; like getting a look into some exclusive party, way after hours. I wish I could do so much with my noisy video.

Nicely done with driving audio and uninhibited party atmosphere. Caught my attention because it makes an interesting contrast with the sophisticated image Stella Artois promotes in this country. On first viewing I thought it was just spaced out chicks at a beer-sodden rave with one smashed guy (apart from the entertainers), but on review there were indeed several more glum gents at the party.
Guess your riding instructions were to make a promo encouraging young males to buy the beer because it is cheap and turns girls on? This is not a criticism --- it's my reaction to it as a commercial, and if well received then it is indeed a job well done.

2Road....your comments about the spycam and the "heat" factor I are really bang on. There was something "hot" about some of the shots and I think it may have been that overexposed amber gradient I like to use. (there's a filter tip for ya)

The spycam feel comes from covering the event with an early ( but great ) 1 chip imaging system. Fantastic images in bright light, but not so great with low light. Thus the gain/grain. But I knew I was gonna have that so I opted to shoot that way.....low levels, dutch angles, and an almost voyuristic perspective. The "rave like" comment is bang on too as we wanted to catch the energy and excitement about the event.

Love the comments/critiques.....keep em coming.

I was wondering?

Back with a Bang I see.. GREAT Camera work..Your usage of light just keeps getting better 'n BETTER..You are An Artist with the world "Your canvas"..

00:05 COULD the titles have a border to separate it from the energetic Video? The yellow was such a contrast Perhaps white might work better?

00:11 The T shirt didn't "quite" work IMHO.. The reason I felt was because it was static.. When so much energy everywhere else.. Maybe the peel from the previous message could have been done earlier? and not overlapped?

I kept getting the message Stella =Beautiful girls..I think the message WOULD have been better if it said "Beautiful Girls drink stella "

Perhaps Some footage of girls drinking stella?

The Filter effects were Beautiful and some Extremely Stunning clips and Closeups of the stella can..

I would like to see you move up to Film this would look really good at the Local Cinema.. Im sure this is the direction your heading especially the way you use light..

Im so pleased to see you doing well Stan ! yOU Work hard and deserve it..

"2Road....your comments about the spycam and the "heat" factor I are really bang on."

It was easy to feel that the entire clip, the music, the energy and movement, etc., is a buildup to a fire, and in the end, there it is.....fire....the video that could not be shown. Very creative stuff.
