Newbie ? - Blank frames added by mistake

Learning Vegas Platinum 8...did not stop the playbace during playback and mistakenly added many minutes to the video...blank frames. Now when I render, all this blank time is added to the video. Can't find proper method for removing all this extra time on the timeline, though I have searched this forum.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Dan

With the clip on the timeline, locate the part where you want the clip to end, then click and put the playhead (cursor line) there. Drag the cursor left or right or use the arrow keys to get it just where you want it. Now press the "S" key to split the event. Click on the part you want to delete and press the Delete key.

Note that this does not affect your original clip (on your hard drive) at all -- you aren't actually deleting anything from the original file. Vegas (and pretty much all editing programs) is a non-destructive editor, so by splitting the clip on the timeline you are merely telling Vegas what part of the video you want to use in your project. The original file is untouched.

Long, long ago, VMS used to have an icon for the "Split" function, but now it is available only via the keyboard, and its not a very obvious function for a new user.

Awesome Tim...thank you very much! One of those things I "should" have figured out myself but couldn't see the forest for the trees.
