Newbie - could use some help with TitlerPro 7

Philip-Deys wrote on 6/22/2023, 7:56 PM

Hi all! I've been using Vegas 18 for a while now but still a novice. Recently got Titler Pro 7 and based on the posts here, I must be doing something wrong. Everyone seems to like it. For me, it is *exceedingly* slow - sometimes takes 2 hours just to render a simple bullet list. If I put 2 of the same type of title in the same video, they cannot be edited separately (editing one impacts the other). I tried to update TP7 (I have the FX package) and then Chroma Key stopped working. I'm looking for an alternative at this point unless I can figure out a way to make this work better. I have a very fast machine, by the way - that is definitely not the issue.

Re:

Title sharing can be turned off. Go to Edit/Preferences and uncheck 'Enable title sharing'.

Titler Pro 7 has a lot of advanced features, so its a good idea to access TP7's user manual via the Help menu to explore TP7's features and how to use them. For example, one of the early headings in the user manual is titled 'Enable or Disable Title Sharing'.

I tried to update TP7 (I have the FX package) and then Chroma Key stopped working.

What exactly is that FX package?

Is the Chroma Keyer a NewBlue FX plugin?

If both the FX package and the chroma keyer are NewBlueFX products, there may be a clash between those plugins and TP7 and therefore you'll need to contact NewBlueFX support for assistance.

Thanks for the tip - I'll try that. Funny that the support person didn't know that. The package I have is TotalFX 7. When I upgraded that, Chroma Key Pro stopped working, which is the feature I use most. I've been in contact with support and they had me try the latest build but it's not backward compatible. My old Vegas files wouldn't even open. I do like TitlerPro (to answer the OP from years ago) and will keep trying to make it work, but I can't say I love it based on the performance and frequent glitches. Oh, and creating a .mov didn't work for me because Vegas didn't recognize the .mov/.png format. If anyone has a tip for a plug-in or something that will help Vegas recognize the format I'd appreciate it. I think someone said something about Quicktime?

You should find that TP7 is already a plugin within Vegas Pro (NewBlue Titler Pro 7 - OpenFX) in the Video FX window or the Plugin Chooser as well as being accessible as a media generator in the Media Generator window.

When using TP in Vegas Pro - as against the standalone (SAL) - I've never had any need for QT when using TP within VP.

Also, you can create TP titling in the SAL and save them as a project file via the File/Export menu into a folder of your choice. Then in Vegas Pro, open TP7 by either the FX or media gen method and use the File/Import/Design menu option to import the saved project into TP7 on Vegas Pro's timeline.

TP7's user manual also a chapter named, 'Add graphics in MAGIX Vegas Pro' which provides a lot of detail about using TP7 in Vegas Pro.

... and once the TP7 MOV file has been dragged into Vegas, you have to make sure that by right clicking on the TP7 MOV in Vegas, Properties>Media and have Alpha Channel>Straight.

I sometimes work in the standalone and put the MOV file in Vegas.

Quicktime is required for MOV files where the Format ID is identified as JPEG or PNG encoded video.

Chroma Key should not stop working. If you have an issue of that nature, the FIRST thing I would do is clear the cache in VEGAS to see if that helps. In fact, it does not hurt to do that periodically.

Thanks for the help, everyone - I'll definitely start using this forum more often. Quick note on Quicktime, you also have to go to options > preferences > deprecated features and check the Quicktime plugin box. I was able to import my title, set the alpha channel as Reyfox mentioned and it worked like a charm. I'll likely just start doing it this way since it's a lot faster. Thanks again!
