Hi! New to Vegas movie studio. I used Click to DVD before but it really does not do anything buy take dv tapes and put them on dvd so I picked up VMS 4.0.

Working on my first project, I imported about 40 minutes of Soccer video and now have about 100 clips in my Media pool. I am going throught each clip by putting it in the trimmer, picking out the parts I want in the project then moving them from the trimmer to the timeline.

I have only gone throught about 5 clips and it is going well but I wondered if this is the best way to go through all of my clips?

Is there a way to rename a clip while it is the trimmer? Right now they are named (by the capture program) tape name - clip 1 etc.

Any thoughts / advice is greatly appreciated. I have been monitoring this forum for about a month and it has been very helpful.

Thanks,
chris

Welcome to Movie Studio: You'll like it!

What I tend to do is to use the Explorer view. (May be tucked to the right of the Media Pool and trimmer tabs). This view allows you to preview the clips (look for the play button control) and also allows you to rename the files. It's pretty efficient to play and rename a lot of files this way. I'll do this at the beginning of a project to get a sense of what I have, and then if the project drags on due to lack of free time I can fall back on the file names to know what I have.

Might be able to do the same thing in the trimmer; I personally tend not to use the trimmer but instead I'll just drag the entire clip onto the timeline and then split or shorten the clip as needed.

In the media pool there is a play button that you can set to auto play ?
You click on your clip and it plays in the vegas window. It's pretty efficient at weeding out the "bad" video. When you find a clip you like drag into the timeline and edit. I just finished a season dvd for my sons socer team and slogged through 400 plus clips.
Hope this helps
