Newbie question, I'm stumped!

I'm sure there is an easy answer to this but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. I've put a couple minutes of editing into a project with quite a few different clips within it and I forgot to add one that I wanted at the very beginning. How can I move all the clips together without messing up the work that I've allready done to make room for the things I want to add to the beginning?

Thanks!!

Place the cursor at he beginning of the timeline. Click the Insert menu and choose time. Enter the amount of time you need to insert in hh:mm:ss;ff format including the digits for frames (leave them as 00 if you wish). This will open up an empty space that long wherever the cursor is. After you've placed the new clip, you can get rid of any excess leftover time very easily. In the Options menu make sure that Ripple Edits is turned on, then double-click in the empty part of the timeline. This will select the empty section as a blue "loop region" area. Press the Delete key and everything to the right of that area will jump over to fill in the empty space.

Chienworks,

Is it also possible to place the cursor at the begining of the project, select to end of project and then grab that selection and move the whole lot to the right by a small amount and then, making sure Ripple is on, drop in the desired clip into the Space greated? Is it essential to "Enter the amount of time you need to insert in hh:mm:ss;ff format including the digits for frames (leave them as 00 if you wish)." ? If it is the case that one has to enter the amount of time, then could this be the "tripping" up I'm getting in PTT?

Hi Grazie!

I suggested the Insert Time function because it's usually easier to grasp for a "newbie" :)

The reason i cautioned about entering all 8 digits is that sometimes VideoFactory and Vegas get the time wrong if you skimp on that data entry. I've entered 00:00:05 and gotten 5 frames instead of 5 seconds. Hmmmm. how are you thinking this relates to PTT? The Insert Time function should only have any effect while using it during editing. Hmmmm.

Sooooo... Chienworks is that a "Hmmmmm" a very interesting thought Grazie or is it a case "Hmmmmmm" when is this bloke going to get XP or 2000 and when is going to listen to what I and others have told him? - Hmmmmmmm.... ;) OR "The Insert Time function should only have any effect while using it during editing" is something you ARE considering as an influence on my PTT thing. Hmmmm. Just love your enigmatic responses....

Grazie

LOL! Nothing quite so sinister, i assure you. I'm just contemplating possible connections. Perhaps you could give a bit more detail on what you think the connection might be.

Sinister - nah! Enigmatic yup!

Timecode erors due to me putting clips at the begining of a pre-rendered clip, or putting a prerendered clip in front of a clip that will be rendered for the purposes of PTTing. I've made a count down clip which works well. I use this to cue in the main clip. I drop this in the begining of a clip/s Im about to PTT. The countdown comes up nice on my monitor [ I've also got a submarine "echo-sounding" sound hitting each second, so I can release pause on the VCR etc etc.

Is there a way to interogate the PTT clip to see the timecode fidelity - ie to view any slips & blips?

Is there a better System Monitor to view what's going on with my processor?

Hey - this is somebody else's thread and I don't want to "hog" erikrich's thread with my other problem.

Yours politely,

Grazie
