Newbie Question Re: Creating Slide Show in Vegas

Can someone who has some experience help this newbie with a step by step on how you create a slide show with custom transitions in Vegas Video 4? I don't want to use DVD Architect to do this. I'm a potential Premiere convert and really like what I see in Vegas. In Premiere, you could put all of your pictures in a story board and then export the completed storyboard to the timeline, add your audio with custom fade ins and outs, then export as an MPEG2 or AVI, etc.

Is there a similar set of steps that can be accomplished in Vegas 4? I searched the forums and don't seem to find anything other than people using DVD Architect to do this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Fairly easy but limited.

First go to Options, Preferences, Editing tab.

1. check automatically overlap multiple media
2. under cut to overlap conversion select amount of overlap you wish.

Apply, OK

Now go to the Explorer tab and select as many multiple images as you want, (select the first, while holding down Shift, select last) then drag and drop to the timeline. They will appear in file name order, so best to check and rename files first outside of Vegas. You can also skip by clicking which image you want, then holding down the Ctrl key and clicking the next and so on.

Regardless if your drop 2 or 500 images, they now will overlap exactly the same.
The downside is this only gives you a simple crossfade. To add more advanced transations you need to drop the transition indvidually on the "x" that indicate the overlap area. Having that feature is something a lot asked for and didn't get. Shame.

Hiyah! - This is easy!

Don't think Story Board. Think drag and drop.

Import your stills into the Media Pool. Drag Still 1 onto the grey area. Try top left hand corner. That's it! Nothing more nothing less. Automatically a "Track" will be assigned to it. Drag Still 2 to butt up to Still 1. You now have a "straight" cut from Still 1 to Still 2. Now if you wanna a dissolve between the 2 stills, just "drag" Still 2 into Still 1. That's it! You now have an automatic dissolve between Still 1 and Still 2.

Audio - couldn't be easier! Hah! Drag and drop your Audio clip, again from the Media Pool, onto the grey area. An audio track will again be automatically assigned to it - THAT'S IT!

Now of course you can do much much MUCH more. Others will chip in here.

Just to let you know I edited down 1 hour real time to twenty mins the other day in about . . . 20 mins - DONE!

Have you got the V4 demo? If not download it and have a play with it. It is very very simple - But there again I haven't had to de-toxted from Premiere. I came straight from Video-ARrrrgghh-Wave. Now if I can handle Vegas coming from VW, chances are you will be way ahead of me - notwithstanding the de-tox issue - he he . . .

Have fun,

Grazie

Thanks for the input. Yes, I'm playing with the demo version right now to determine how much I like it and so far it's far easier than Premiere. I heard a lot of buzz about people moving to VV from Premiere so I had to see what all the buzz was about. The interface is much easier and most tasks seem straight forward.

I appreciate the feedback - this is enough to get me started with the slides and see how the process goes. Thanks!!
