I am newbie to Sony Vegas just installed about couple of weeks ago. I have use other software but new to Vegas. Anyway I have a few questions on were should send files. First let me start with my system. Newbie to Vegas Pro and would like suggestions on files and folder setup. First this is my computer setup. C:\ drive is an SSD were of course I have my OS and programs. My D:\ drive is a raid 10 were I have my video files. My third drive is E:\ drive which is a raid 1 were I keep my photos, documents, etc.

I am looking for suggestions were to place my project file?
2. Under Project Properties it has a Video tab: Prerendered files folder I do not want these on my C:\ driver were should place them? Also under the Audio tab it has recorded files were do suggest I place those?

3. Preferences: General Tab: suggestions were to place Temporary files Folder.
Video Tab: It has C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\VidCap60.exe What is that, and can I move it to my media or document drive?

4. Same with DVD Architect Pro: In Preferences under the Burning Tab it has Default prepare folder E:\My Documents\DVD Architect Pro 6.0 Projects\My Discs and Temporary files folder C:\Users\Kenny\AppData\Local\Temp\ I would like to move these if possible. Suggestions please. and the last one.
Mastering output. E:\My Documents\DVD Architect Pro 6.0 Projects\Mastered DVD. Media drive or leave it at this location.

The last thing is I will be adding another 128 GB SSD drive which I will use for render effects drive.

The answers to all of these are pretty much "wherever you want to put them".

I tend to work in a "folder per project" mode. I put all the files associated with a project, including media and project files, into one folder. It makes it much easier to keep track of things and clean up afterward. I also render to this same folder, and put my DVDA project and output files there as well.

VidCap60.exe is the video capture program used for transferring files from camcorders. If your camcorder uses memory cards rather than tape then this is probably a useless and ignorable feature. If you do need it, then leave it just as is. It's a relatively tiny program installed with Vegas so don't move it..

If you're thinking about getting another SSD drive for rendering for speed increase then don't bother. The speed increase will be so minimal as to be unnoticeable. Drive throughput is usually of no consequence whatsoever when rendering. I still prefer to keep rendered files in the same folder as source files for easy maintenance.

Though I've followed all sorts of schemes for using different drives for source and destination for various steps in the workflow, these days, I just work on the same drive with folders .

>> Under Project Properties it has a Video tab: Prerendered files folder

As those above have indicated, don't worry about the Vegas defaults for prerenders or the VidCap60, etc.. Not much space is used .. As far as defaults for DVD Architect. I've left mine alone (defaulting to C drive) -- not sure how much space the Temporary files actually use .. has not caused me a problem.

I also think the SSD for rendering is a minimal gain and not worth it. I use a WD 7200rpm Black Cavier drive for projects. I put EVERYTHING in one place as suggested above -- including rendering the final output. This way the entire project (all media etc) can be moved easily -- stored -- or reworked later. The thing to avoid in Vegas is media scattered over many different drives. I like to collect everything in one folder. I do create separate sub-folders for music, stills, second camera, veg files, renders, special media etc. Spending time getting organized always pays off.

By the questions you're asking you seem on the right track.
