Newbie Video Edit Question

I just got Vegas 3.0. I went through the tutorial and perused the documentation. I captured some raw video from my digital camcorder and would like to start clipping portions. I know how to make selections and render them as separate tracks, but is there an easier and more efficient way? In others words, I would like to cut (or hide) a portion and join the right and left sides together.

Could someone point me to where in the documentation it discusses this? Any other tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You want to cut a piece out of the middle of the clip? Place the clip on the timeline and then highlight the section of the timeline you want to eliminate. This section will turn blue. Press the Delete key. This will remove the highlighted section and move the part to the right over to butt up against the part on the left.

To split the clip into pieces, just put the cursor where the split needs to occur and press "S". Then you can delete and move sections as needed.

You can always drag the edges of an event to shorten it or lengthen it. No damage is done to the media file-it's all nondestructive.

So you've got:

(S)plit the clip
select an area and delete it (no harm to the original file)
Drag the edges
Drag the cut-up bits of clip around.

It's all pretty easy.
