Newbie with another graphics card question on Pro 14 (211)

Hi everyone

I'm a stills photographer who's finally decided to dabble in video.

I've read a number of the threads about graphics cards and it's become apparent that my GPU isn't best suited to Vegas and I'm looking for some guidance on alternate options.

PC spec is

Win 8.1

I7 4770K, 32GB ram

2GB Quadro K2000 & Dell U2713H primary monitor & Xrite i1 calibrator

m2 SSD for OS and Apps

4TB disk for data

Two other sata SSDs for scratch / output files.

PC is 2.5 years old and has been very good with Lightroom, PS and my various 360' progs such as PTGUI.

I recently put together a 12:30 long video of various clips and it took nearly an hour to render (MC AVC, 1080, 25fps, PAL, 2 pass, 20 / 10 VBR)

As I'm discovering, there's a big learning curve with this and lots of permutations so I downloaded the red car project and here are my results

Sony AVC 1:38 GPU on, 2:32 off

XDCVAM 1:20 on 3:43 off

MC 2:56 on 3:56 off

Would it be reasonable to expect 1 minute or faster render times for that project with say an RX480 card which has been suggested?

TIA

The "Red Car Project" seems to be a benchmark test for VP11 .. 2.5 gigs of zip file to download it? .. Is that right?

Can somebody please tell me where you can download it from? I’ve seen a lot of people talking about it, what I don’t recall to see is a link.

Just to add to my earlier post, the RX480s seem to draw 150 or more watts, three times my Quadro, and I don't have a massive case.

I'd prefer to hang on to my Quadro though I'm a bit concerned about cooling and power consumption and running two cards together.

Does anyone have any thoughts on other single card solutions?

In case you haven't read it: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-graphics-cards-gpu-acceleration-for-vegas-pro--104614/

Thanks Nick and yes I had read that. Just having a look at the Radeon Pro WX 5100 which seems to tick all boxes. As these are quite new, I presume no one has any experience of them?

I've never seen that card mentioned on the forum before.

Which boxes does it tick?

Paper specs look good; memory, lowish power draw and small(er) form factor compared to the RXs . Price is double but if it 'matches' the Quadros in terms of spec (for other apps) then it could be a one card solution?

That card has 28 compute units, my Fury X has 64. The old HD 6970 had 24, I believe.

Sorry, just seen this. A quick interweb suggests those Fury X cards are rather beefy! I guess I'm looking for a Quadro spec card but one made by AMD 😀

Quadro cards are not beefy. They are based on the same GPU as consumer cards but use different drivers and ECC memory. They usually support 10-bit and deeper color rendering and are way overpriced otherwise. In the past, people have modified GTX570 cards hardware identifiers and run it with NVidias pro drivers with great success. That showed that consumer cards are purposely crippled to keep the price of pro cards high. If you don't need 10bit or an app is actually requiring it, buy a consumer card as you get more for your money.
