Newblue into Vegas Effects

Doug-Wilson wrote on 4/19/2020, 8:25 AM

Hello

I have downloaded and installed Vegas 17 Post demo version.

I use NewBlue Chroma Key Pro with my current Vegas Pro 16 and it does an excellent job for me.

I want to incorporate the New Blue package into Vegas Effects, because the Chroma Keying in Vegas Effects is poor in comparison to the NewBlue version.

Here is a quote from the Vegas Effects Manual.

'VEGAS Effects is OpenFX compliant. This means you can add additional functionality to the software from other plugin developers such as GenArts, NewBlue FX, Red Giant and RE:Vision.'

I cannot see anywhere in the Vegas Effects Manual (or in the software itself) which tells me how I can do this. There doesn't seem to be anything at all on the Vegas support videos either.

The answer to this question will mean the difference whether I buy this product or not. I want to test it as well.

Thank you

Doug W.

@Doug-Wilson ... the biggest issue here is where did you get the NBFX Chroma Keyer from? If you bought it directly from NBFX, then it should work across many OFX platforms as you have stated as an expectation in your post. But if you got it as an 'extra' paid or otherwise with an earlier 'bundled' version of Vegas Pro, then there is reasonable chance it won't work in a later version of Vegas Pro because those 'extras' are often license-locked to the Vegas Pro version with which they are bundled and are thus locked out of future versions of Vegas Pro.

If you have a full license with NBFX for that plug-in, make sure that you have the latest build of that plugin, and if there is still an issue, contact NewBlueFX for assistance via your NBFX account - they are very quick at responding in my experience.

I have already asked this question in several places and I believe you have given a similar answer elsewhere before for which I am very grateful. I have a full blown version of NewBlue FX and fully understand the 'locked version' thing. I DON'T want to add it to Vegas 17 Pro, I want to add it to Vegas EFFECTS. The quotation is from the Vegas Effects manual.

Hello Ian, thanks for your input. Vegas Effects is just a cut down version of HitFilm isn't it? In the Hitfilm traing videos, they say you can add any effects which are OFX compliant. Do you know that it will crash, have you tried it or are you just guessing.

While it is not Vegas Effects (which I also believe is a re-jigged version of HitFilm Pro), the full HitFilm Pro program successfully loads and uses NewBlueFX Titler Pro 6 as just tested here.

Hello Dexcon glad to hear from you again. This forum seems to be the only place to get any information about Vegas Effects. There is a pre sales contact phone line here in the UK which is out of action. I realise this is may be a difficult question I'm asking but here it is :- How do I load my NewBlueFX Elements 3 Ultimate package into Vegas Effects (demo version) so I can test it myself. My frustration with this one is boiling over. I've spent nearly 2 weeks trying to get this answer and soon the demo will run out.

Try (OS hard drive, using C as an example) c:/program files/fx home/vegas effects/plugins

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

@Doug-Wilson … one of the last comments (from jetdv from NBFX) on the following links notes that Elements 3 Ultimate is a full retail version and should work on later versions of Vegas Pro:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-17-versions--119793/#ca747267

That suggests that it should work in other OFX friendly NLEs (Vegas Effects for example?).

Just as a suggestion, try re-installing the NBFX package again because (admittedly) many years ago, I had to on occasion re-install some plug-ins to get them to appear in a new version of an NLE.

Perhaps jetdv could offer an opinion here.

I've re-installed the NBFX package and still can't see it in Vegas Effects. I've had a look at HitFilm Pro website and I can buy it outright (HitFilm Pro full package) for £308. If I install standalone it is virtually the same as Vegas Post except I would only have to export from my current Vegas v16 outputs into it. I am struggling to see where the £499 price tag (for an upgrade) from my current version is justified. HitFilm also comes with 1 year support and upgrades included. HitFilm Pro comes with Mocha, which is missing from Vegas Effects. If I buy it now I am worried that the now annual round of new versions will appear shortly and will have to spent even more. Thank you for all your help, I have some thinking to do.

Does the green screen effect work inside of Vegas Pro (not Vegas Effects) when installed? If so, just do your green screening in VP, move it over into VE from there to do whatever else you may need.

Did you try copying the NewBlue OFX folder into the VE plugins folder I specified above?

You can always subscribe to Vegas 365 and use post for a while, all the while getting updates at no additional charge as they release. Or wait until later this year for that annual round to drop before taking the plunge.

Thanks again for all your help. I stared out by doing what fr0sty suggested, doing the green screen in VP and then to add additional effects in VE and it didn't work, hence the questions about installing NBFX into VE. I have just gone through the process again and it does work, in fact it works very well indeed. I am now impressed enough to buy it. I'm not sure whether I missed something the first time around or it was the re-install of NBFX that got me to this place. Sorry if I sent you guys on what seems a wild goose chase, but I really do appreciate your help.

An update here. I could not get NewBlue to display in the Demo Version of the Effects Software, hence this question thread. I have now bought the full version and NewBlue is working fine within this full version. Thanks for all your help
