NewBlueFX 3D install

DocSatori wrote on 11/7/2012, 2:51 PM
I am trying to install the NewBlueFX 3D Titling and Video Effects | English pack that is bundled with my downloadable Movie Studio Platinum 12 (64 bit version) on a Windows 7 operating system. But, no matter how I try - as Administrator, installing directly from the Sony 'My Software' site, saving to various folders and trying to install - I end up at the useless dead end message:

"Can't find Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 12 on this computer."

MSP12 IS installed on my computer.

I suspect the problem originates with my operating system being Italian. Even though there is a language selection option when first clicking the installation file for the NewBlue, selecting various languages has no affect - I still end up at that message. (No idea why it's not set up to let me direct it to the folder where MSP12 is installed.)

Anyhow, I suspect more precisely it's looking for the PROGRAM FILES (x86) folder, but I had to install MSP12 in a folder called (in Italian) PROGRAMMI.

Q1A. Who agrees with my intuitive conclusion the folder names is causing the problem? Q1B. For those who agree, any idea how to solve it?

Q2. If it's not the folder name, what is it?

Hopefully, this hasn't been asked and answered in this forum already. I couldn't find it in a search.

Doc, I'm not sure what it checks to verify SMS12 is installed. Do make sure you're running the installer as an Administrator, though.

Thanks jetdv. I wasn't sure. That helps eliminate some doubt.

OK As Administrator on my computer, I created multiple folders with different names with MSP12 installed in them.

I installed the NewBlueFX 3D directly from the 'my software' page on this site and although I didn't get the 'unknown folder' message, I got a request for a serial number.

Not having any such serial number, I remembered this forum post suggesting I had to contact Tech Support. Well, that's not as easy as one might think from Italy. So, I decided I didn't really need those effects so badly afterall. I wonder why SONY would want to waste human resource time responding to every request for a serial number instead of attaching it with an email or on the 'my software' page. But, that'd be a whole new thread.

I am getting the same error when I try and install the update. I have Windows 7 set to en_UK locale though.

What folder name did you set up to get the installer to recognize it?

Okay, I played with a few things and finally have the two packs working. The problem is, I'm unsure as to whhich thing I changed worked. I cleaned out some hidden folders which wouldn't get cleaned even with a registry 'cleaning' program like Piriform's CCleaner.

I think some other people are not having the same problem I had - which was either a corrupt file, duplicate file name called up by application, or bad folder name call up - but, are instead having problems with the various steps required to install and use these add ons.

I won't detail them now (I have a splitting headache) but there are three steps you can find throughout these forums, but not all together.

1. you download and install two seperate files from NewBlue. (You probably have to have adminstrator status for whichever user you're installing as - which doesn't mean you have to install as the ADMINISTRATOR).

2. When you go to download/install from NewBlue you are asked for a name and email. That's important. If you don't see that screen, you'll have to get back there and retry. (It's curious how they have about five fields - name, email, etc etc - and then have a note saying the fields in bold need to be filled - and every field is in bold (that made me laugh (but that's just me))). Now, very quickly, New Blue sends you an email with the ridiculously long serial numbers/keys/whatever (my word they're long!) - in my case two - one for titles pack 1 (lower thirds) and one for cinema looks.

3. Now, here's the tricky part I bet for a lot of beginner and novice users. You have to launch these add-ons inside of your Sony application. These are not on the special effects tab or transitions tab where you might expect. They are under VIEW > EXTENSIONS (NOT Edit > Extensions (as I have seen some people write)). Both should be listed there seperately. (Have the keys/serial number email open (you don't wanted to have to type those buggers out longhand) and copy and paste them in to the correct fields). Now, you should be good to go.

I'm sorry I don't give ALL the info you need here, but you can find the missing bits on the forum(s). It's bringing these three steps together under one roof I have never seen.

There are a few good tutorial videos about this at the NewBlue website as well.

Good luck.

I appreciate the titles pack. The cinema effects one, maybe I'll find a use for eventually. But, you can't beat the price!

Thanks for the insight Doc,

I have the same problem, "Can't find Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 12 on this computer" , but I'm pretty sure I don't have a disk cleaning problem as I just did a clean install on my machine with Win8pro.

I did try the install of NewBlue AFTER updating to build 576/64bit, this did not work.

I'm curious about your #2 - download from NewBlue the files, what files are you referring to? The Titler Pro 2.0?

Thanks for the help and info regarding #3, once I get the correct files, I'll use your recommended method.

Thanks,
Dan

You're very welcome. I'm sorry I can't tell you which change I made to my computer helped because you know, when it comes to fixing a problem there's sometimes so much trial and error involved, you stop making a note of every step taken. You're just happy when it works.

The two addons are:

VASST's CinemaLooks 1

VASST's TitleStrip 1

Let us know if you have success.

I'd like to take a moment to thank the crews at NewBlue and VASST for the work they're doing. They have been really active trying to provide us with tutorials, add ons and similar. I'm not one who only wants freebies, but I do take advantage of them to learn about products and techniques. I feel NewBlue and VASST have been more than generous with their time and product for Sony Vegas users. But, I noticed there are very few reviews of their products through the Sony site, their sites or third-party sites. I think it would be only fair if more people left a little review or feedback for the free or purchased products.

Here is more evidence of their generosity:

Free resources at VASST website.

The free lower thirds for the holidays are timely.

Plus, they have some great discount pricing with promo codes available on their site.

Plus, plus, they have a one page list of available every since at least version 6.

I had the same problem and just figured it out. I accidently had the software loaded in two places. It was loaded in "Program Files" and in “Program Files (X86)." The startup links on my desktop and in start programs pointed to "Program Files." All the other Sony software, Sound Forge and DVD Architect, are loading from "Program Files (X86)". I uninstalled Movie studio and deleted all related files in BOTH locations. I then reinstalled it into "Program Files (X86)" only. The NewBlueFX installed fine after that.

EXCELLENT Saltyman, how logical, I personally always look for the most complicated solution!!

Correct and worked fine for me. I did the same, uninstalled all the programs and forced:

1/ Movie Studio Platinum 12.
2/ DVD Architect
3/ Sound Forge

to all install in "Program Files (X86)\Sony. This option is in the very early steps of install, so go slow and you'll see it.

I then installed the New Blue 3D Titling and the program installed just fine. No need to install any other New Blue files.

Also, in regard to DocSatori's reminder and info on the Vasst CinemaLooks1 and Vasst TitleStrip1, go to this site at Sony to get the download:

https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/fasstoffer

If you go down this path and input your Movie Studio license #, you'll get an email with the license keys to unlock them!

Thanks again DocS for the links for the 1/ free resources and 2/ one page list of Vegas Pro Plugins. I don't have pro, but looks like all these APPS work with Pro 10,11,12 and Movie Studio Platinum 12 "*" - read the "*" on their site re: this.

Thanks again folks,
Dan

P.S. one odd thing, when re-installing the original Movie Studio from disk this way, I did not get the automatic prompt to update to Version 12 Build 576. Odd, but manually did the update and everything is fine.

You're very welcome Daniel. I also meant to add that I had installed MS to the two different directories and cleaned them out as best I could, but I couldn't see why having any or all of it in the two folders would cause any trouble with third party add-ons. I did ocurr to me some people have an icon on their desk-top or Start menu that is no longer valid, but I didn't think that needed mentioning.

In a similar way, it seems having *.vf defaulting to be opened from any version of MS - an old version or different version, will cause problems if someone is not thinking straight.

Hey Doc, that's funny, " will cause problems if someone is not thinking straight.".

Happens to me all the time since most of my free time on this is between 10pm and 3am!

Sincerely,
Dan

NewBlue FX supplied with Movie Studio 16.0 will not install . Says it cannot find Registry Key
