I did not notice that there is quite fresh update of entire NewBlueFX family (this is still V4 but installers offer to choice between standard and OpenFX).
I downloaded and installed the NewBlue Essential Packs 1-4 as well as the stabalizer over my current versions, all updated and now they are compliant with Vegas 10....Great thing with NewBlue is the discount Codes they EMAIL me with each purchase, I basically got all the Essential Packs for a little over 30 Bucks a piece instead of the already reduced price of $79.00.....
Keith, NewBlue just uploaded the new OpenFX versions at the end of this week. We'll be making full notifications very soon. A press release is also in the works.
Back when I purchased the first Essential Pack for a limited intro price of I believe about 44.00 dollars they Emailed me a discount code for up to 50% off my next purchase, I used it on the 2nd Essential Pack and to my surprise I received yet another Email coupon code, so I used it on pack 3 as well...I kept the discount code and tried it with the New release of Pack 4 and to my surprise it worked like a charm....Thus far I have not received anymore discount codes from Newblue so they may stopped giving them out....But it saved me quite a bundle....
I just upgraded to Vegas Pro 10 from Vegas Movie Studio 9. Last week I downloaded a trial of NewBlue IV, then ended up buying II, III, and IV yesterday.
In Vegas Pro, I have each effect twice: the "normal" NewBlue effect with the interface I am accustomed to seeing, plus an NewBlue OpenFX with a different interface.
In Vegas Movie Studio, I have only the normal NewBlue effect, which makes sense because it does not have the OpenFX capability (not that I understand what OpenFX is at this point anyway).
So in Pro, what's the difference between the normal NewBlue and the NewBlue OpenFX? Is it just a different GUI? I am still getting acquainted with Pro so haven't figured out why I need both or how to suppress the duplicate display if they are, indeed, duplicates.
Has anyone gotten any crashes with Vegas Pro 10 after installing the updated NewBlueFX OpenFX plugins? For me Vegas has always been rock solid through the last 4 versions I've owned, I could count the crashes I've had on one hand.
But tonight when I upgraded the plugins, I was just trying some of the plugins out, dropping various ones into the timeline ( efx or transitions) and while using the OpenFX versions of the plugins, Vegas crashed 3 times within one hour.
I'm using the 64 bit version of Vegas 10, running on Windows 7 Pro. I own most of the NewBlue plugins, so it would be hard to pinpoint if it was a specific one giving me a problem.
Logic tells me the needs of the many outweigh the needs of.....no, no, no, (sorry), Logic tells me that the crashes are being caused by the updated NewBlue plugins.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

EDIT: It just happened again and I saved a screen shot this time. I was scrolling through the Video FX and I just highlighted "NewBlue LE Spinning Light- OpenFX" I didn't even apply it to the video in the timeline, I just selected it in the list of Video FX on the left column and it displayed the Presets next to it.
MESSAGE SAYS: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly......, (with the Close Program button)
I hope this additional info helps.

It's not only NewBlueFX feature, OpenFX plugins from other suppliers are doing the same. There is some hotspot between plugins and OpenFX SDK (or just bug in FX window). Send report to SCS support and NewBlueFX support. Because NewBlueFX install also 2008 C++ Redistributable 64 on your HDD, you should also check, where it's installed and what version it is (include this info to report). You can check in Control Panel applet Installed Programs (set column header LOCATION and SOURCE to see). Windows Update is continously (almost month by month) updating this ingradient of system.
Thanks for the reply RRA. So, would it be too much to hope for that Sony might offer us a fix in the next Vegas update?
Also do you think that having BOTH versions (regular and OpenFX) of the plugins installed might be causing an issue. Would it be worth it to remove the duplicate, non-OpenFX versions, to see if it works any better?
I'm sure SCS will conduct updates during 2011 as it was for previous versions. I prefere to keep both version of plugins. I have organized it under PlugInManager in different folders for standard and for OpenFX version. OpenFX offer different tools for animation (see lanes/curves mode, also presets files (not registry keys)), so it's worth to have it installed. FX from Sony (and some from other suppliers) are still in standard, so you can't avoid it. Having both standard nad OpenFX version ot the same plugin, can't do anything wrong, each effect is registered in registry as independent.
Hi RRA,
You mentioned checking on the version and location of MS Visual C++ Redistributable program. Well it seems that I have a WHOLE BUNCH of versions installed. I have several 2005 and even more 2008 versions, both 32 and 64 bit.
Ranging from 8.0.56336 to 9.0.30729.4148
I'm not real big on this kind of thing, and I'm wondering if this might be causing the problem and if I should delete some of the older versions?
It is safe to have both the older versions and the newer OpenFX versions both installed at the same time. I have heard of a couple of instances where people are having an issue when selecting one of the plugins on the VideoFX tab. But - this is not happening on my machine. However, in all cases, adding the effects via the FX button on the events has worked fine.
jetdv - I think you might be onto something there. If I keep the tabbed windows on "Project Media" and just right click on the transition or click on the Event FX icon within the timeline, I do not get any crashes. I've been doing this for an hour now and it's rock solid.
So perhaps the preview icons in the "Transitions" or "Video FX" tabs are the things that are making Vegas crash for me. In which case it's a possibility that this has something to do with my video card or driver. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5800, and the driver is up to date.
