News Ticker

I am creating a short mock news segment for a conference this next weekend and I was hoping someone new how to create a news ticker like they have at the bottom of the screen on CNN. If this is even possible with Vegas. Also-I haven't checked this out yet but if you know how to insert a logo into the corner of a clip that would also be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Google is your friend.

From JetDV Newsletters:
Vol 2 #10 - Creating Lower Thirds
vol 4 #3 - Beginner's Corner - News Ticker

There is also a sample project file on VASST site, but it's a .veg, so you can't open it on VMS.

So, I created a .vf project file for you to see how it's constructed (right click to "save as").

Thanks so much! That really did help! Do you perhaps know how I would put a logo in the corner of the clip??

I printed the two PDF pages mentioned above and tried to create a ticker. The first one of "Creating Lower Thirds" was a bit too complicated for me to figure out. The "News Ticker" was easier to understand but I'm stuck.

In column two of that page, it reads "once the position has been established, the text needs to be moved off the right edge of the screen." I was able to create the scroll.

Here's where I'm stuck. The next paragraph explains to add a second keyframe" and I can add the keyframe but must not be doing something correctly because the ticker is not scrolling completely off the screen.

My ticker reads "This is a test to see how titling works on this video" and it stops scrolling with "This is" still showing.

If someone can give me simple instructions on how to add the second keyframe and/or how to fix just the one key frame so that the text scrolls completely off the screen, I'd appreciate it.

Move the text completely off the screen to the right
Set your first keyframe with the text at that point
Set your last keyframe with the text completely off the screen to the left.
When you play this the text will scroll from off screen right to off screen left.
How fast it scrolls will depend on the length of your event.

Should the key frames be next to/touching each other? I just have a feeling I'm not doing something right to get the keyframes in place. Thanks.

Create a text event.
Type your tesx in and place it at the bottom of the screen.
I believe text events default to 10 sec duration.
At the bottom of the generated media box there will be a time line for the keyframing. Make sure the curser is at the beginning and move the text off screen right. A keyframe should be generated. If not then hit create keyframe. This will place your text off screen right at the first key frame which is at the beginning of the event. Then move the curser to the end of the keyframe time line and move your text to off screen left. This will generate a keyframe at the end of the event. Now as the curser traverses from the beginning to the end your text will travel from off screen right to off screen left. Since the event is 10 seconds it will take that long to do it. If you want it to move faster you change the length of the event, conversly for slower.
