News Ticker

I am using VMS 10 and want to create a ticker at the bottom of the screen like they do on the news. I have everything set up except for the text. What I can not figure out is how to get the text to scroll in from the left and move like a news ticker. Am I missing something simple here or is there some creative work I need to do?

Type the text as one long straight line. Under the Placement tab at the first keyframe move the text all the way to the right so that the first letter is past the right edge of the frame. Add a keyframe at the end of the text event and move the text all the way to the left so that the last letter is past the left endge of the frame. The text will now scroll smoothly from right to left as the event plays.

Thank you for the reply. I am not sure I understand placement tab. When you say placement tab do I use a media generator and select text or credit scrolling?

Text. The placement tab will be immediately obvious when you're there.

You will probably find that the text will move too quickly across the bottom using the default event length. To slow it down you need to do 3 things - drag the right side of the event on the time line to make it longer - you will get a series of little tick marks along th top of the event. These mean that the text will repaet at each tick mark - to get rid of these and have the test stretch the full length click on the little film strip icon in the upper right of the event to open the meida generator window - then simply click the icon in the upper right corner (it is the 4th from the right) that says "match event length". this will stop the repeating fo the text. And finally look at the key frame markers and move the right hand one (= the end point) to the right end of the mini time line The text will then reach across the entire length of the event. To adjust speed just mover that end key frame marker This is how you control speed of just about any event .
It may seem combersum but if you think about what you are asking the software to do it is pretty straight forward. Working with key frames is a necessary skill in any time line editing program....
