Nice touch to slide shows

Just recently put a nice touch to slide shows using Vegas. Put the stills together with just a simple Xfade between them, but use pan/crop to zoom around the stills, finishing with a full "pull-out" at the end of each slide.
Quite impressive and beats the "simple" shots. Find stills from a digital cam the best as there is more resolution there on zoom in.
Turns something quite boring into almost moving pictures. Stick some nice music in and it looks great!

Using something like Neon's PBS wizard can really help with this entire process. There are also a couple of scripts over at the VASST web site that can be helpful (the aspect ratio script for one).

You can also mix zooming out with in (just doing it one way gets boring and repetitious). Also Pan/Crop can be used for other types of movement - not just zooms.

One cool effect is to take a still from some video, stick it in a frame and have it come floating on screen, then have the video start playing in the frame.

Just using a frame around the pictures can also dress things up as well, along with some tasteful backgrounds.

Adding color to B&W is a nifty thing to do - even just a splash of color (for example, making the roses red in a weeding photo of the bride). Taking color out - for example, you may have some sepia photos along with some color and you're showing a progression in time. Take the first color in the sequence, use the Sepia filter to bring things into Sepia and then let the color fade in to act as your transition from one format to the other.

Great Tips, I also was using the pan/crop to add some life to still images. I'll have to also try the other great tips and scripts.

Can you post some example movies to further explain what you are talking about?
