Nice Vegas 7 +DVD4 upgrade offer...$149 !

ken c wrote on 9/12/2006, 1:51 PM
In my email inbox just now from Sony:

Through October 31, upgrade from any version of Vegas or the Vegas+DVD Production Suite to the new Vegas+DVD for only $149.95, a savings of $100.

Sounds like someone could upgrade from vegas 4 only to vegas 7 + DVD for just 149 - is that right??

So that's a good deal - thanks!

<kicking and stomping> I want my upgrade now darnit.
p@mast3rs wrote on 9/12/2006, 1:53 PM
So if you upgrade online, do you get the serial for Boris too?
ken c wrote on 9/12/2006, 2:00 PM
Yes! Or get the ESD/downloadable version for just $135.95!

Vegas+DVD (Download)
Includes downloadable versions of Vegas 7 (114MB), DVD Architect 4 (41MB), Boris Graffiti LTD (48MB), Magic Bullet Movie Looks HD 50 (1MB), AC-3 encoding software, and the Vegas and DVD Architect Manuals (PDF).

Here's the link I got (UPDATED):

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/promo.asp?keycode=63001&url=/shopping/item.asp?PID=416

plus you can add cinescore + two theme packs for an extra $149 (should I? I just use royalty free music mostly.. hmm )

that link gives me a $234 upgrade price for download, $249 for boxed.

hmm that's odd.. maybe it's based on the base version of vegas installed? but it says, in the email:

Announcing new Sony Vegas+DVD software, featuring Vegas 7, DVD Architect 4 and Dolby Digital AC-3 encoding software. Newly upgraded with an expanded feature set, it's the most powerful and comprehensive video, audio, and DVD production suite available. Take advantage of three promotions:

* Through October 31, upgrade from any version of Vegas or the Vegas+DVD Production Suite to the new Vegas+DVD for only $149.95, a savings of $100.

* Ready to step up to Vegas+DVD? Upgrade from Vegas Movie Studio or Vegas Movie Studio Platinum for only $299.95, a savings of $141.

* If you're not currently using Vegas, try it now for only $499.95, a savings of $200.

Vegas+DVD is now faster, more efficient and supports more formats than prior versions. It's the application of choice for working with high-definition video, mixing surround soundtracks in 5.1, and creating dual-layer DVDs. Its extensive audio tool set also makes it a complete multitrack recording studio. Vegas+DVD offers a full range of state-of-the-art professional video and audio editing technology; it's the best solution available for capturing and editing video, producing audio, creating soundtracks and authoring DVDs.

what's up?

hmm I see, there's an embedded "keycode" in the URL link, not sure if that's for everyone, or person-independent..

There may have been a cookie built into the *first* URL in your e-mail that dropped the price to $149.95.

Here's the complete link:

Hmm should I get Cinescore or not? I'm a royalty-free using music kind of guy.. but I used to author-compose music (roland D-50 etc), so maybe it would be useful.. the price is solid, eg $149 includes cinescore + both theme packs...

Heck I'll eat crow and take back all my doubts, if I can get the V7 upgrade, modest as it is, for just $149, now that's not too bad... :-) thx sony.

and I might even double my order to $300 to include cinescore..

Sony tech support helped. Listed under knowledgebase articles. First one.

Now that I finally took a moment to try to listen to Cinescore, my Win XP machine doesn't understand the stream from their examples, ditto my Mac with WM plugin.

I'll fire up a few more machines here, but why does it have to be so hard?

Non-standard?

I decided to go ahead and just do the ESD Sony Vegas/DVD only upgrade.. heck it's $135, that's irresistable to me...

No sooner than I placed my order, here comes my email in my inbox. Figures but its all good. Cant be it for $157 (2nd day shipping) I got the additional media as a backup.
ken c wrote on 9/12/2006, 3:10 PM
right - it's worth the $150 just to stay in the upgrade loop, and hopefully the improvements in Vegas 7 will be good, albeit minor improvements.

What I'd really like to see is the guy at bluff titler somehow work with vasst or jetdv or someone to turn bluff into an integratable plug-in for Vegas.. or hopefully see a new titler for Vegas 7.0b ... and something with more auto lower-thirds type capability.. that would be helpful..

anyways, kudos to sony for making the u/g to V7 very reasonably-priced... now I hope they get so many sales they can afford a few more dedicated programmers, to add significant changes to V8 etc

Yeah I was suprised (pleasantly) at the upgrade price. While Sony may not have given us a ton of new things the price reflects accordingly. Kudos to Sony for sure. Now if I can only get some sort of academic deal worked out with Cineform and Serious Magic, life will be butta from here on out for my class room.

Hey Vic, whats the word on those lights as I am getting nearer to needing them?
DavidMcKnight wrote on 9/12/2006, 3:32 PM
VIC - you speak da truth.

I had less polite comments a couple of days ago for some folks but held my tongue, cause mama always said if you can't say something nice....

It has been fun to watch, hasn't it. I'm looking forward to doing some testing tonight.
Opampman wrote on 9/12/2006, 3:35 PM
Vic - you're right. This whole upgrade thing is a "hoot". Never seen such handwringing over $149.
ken c wrote on 9/12/2006, 4:34 PM
lol Vic, 'tis true.... every word of it... i liked your comment on soup too, that helped me put it in perspective... i guess we're all so close to vegas, great phrase re we're passionate about it since we use it so much... I spent more time w/vegas than my wife this summer... :p ah well..

time to render..

egg on face, because I thought it would be a $250+ upgrade but now Sony made
it right... wouldn't be worth it, minor improvements for that price tag, but for $135 hey I bought it pronto... that's great...

I'm very embarrassed to ask this but I just purchased Vegas 7.0+DVD. I downloaded Vegas 7.0 and it installed Vegas 7.0 and Media Manager OK but where the heck do I download DVDA 4.0?

Thanks, guys.

I kept going to the upgrade page (they do have Vegas 7.0 there) but could not find DVDA 4 anywhere. I did find it via your suggestions and it's time to play!!!
