NLE suggested approach

Can anyone suggest an approach in VV3 for editing a four camera shoot? I've captured full-length (90min live production) footage from two DV cameras (a&v) and selected clips from two Hi8 cameras. All audio is at 32/16. My master audio track is recorded separately at 48/16 from a mixing board.

This is my first project in VV3, although I've used Premiere in the past. I'm wondering if I should lay out the master audio track and then sync the two dv video streams on separate tracks. If I place all video streams on separate tracks, is it easiest to edit (select which video to use) by splitting and then deleting tracks? Or, should I use the AB roll? My concern is maintaining the sync with the audio.

Thanks very much for your assistance!
Glen

There are several ways to do your show. The easiest way for me would be to lay down the master audio, then lay down the master "A" camera right above it(assuming one camera's job was to hold a decent master). Once you sync these two, group them together and delete the camera audio track if you don't need it.

Then you could layer the other 3 cams above the master, in sync, and cut to them as needed. You can use the "solo track" button to turn tracks on and off quickly. Like you said, you'd then split the tracks as needed and delete the unwanted footage.

I'm sure someone else like Douglas may have a better answer, I personally like to work off the master shot because sometimes you can actually over-edit a show.

I agree with this approach of laying the master shot. The trick is then when you select the other shots, transfer the audio as well. Then expand the audio track hiegth so that you have a good view and match the pulses by sliding the new cut. I have found I can match it perfectly that way.
