No assistant in Vegas - Error Message on Startup

Kit wrote on 1/5/2011, 4:58 PM
Using Production Assistant 2.05 on Windows 7 64 bit, regular account. When I launch the assistant from the desktop shortcut I always get an error message at startup:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could not load Process Presets
Error: could not find file C:\Users\[Username]\Appdata\Roaming\Sony\Production Assistant\2.0\ProductionAssistant.settings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Worse the extension doesn't show up in Vegas 10b I tried reinstalling but the problem remains. How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Kit

That could be your problem. The installer creates the file that Production Assistant is trying to find. If the installing user is not an administrator, Windows physically switches to the "Administrator" account and so the file gets placed in the administrators AppData folder instead of the users AppData folder. The workaround is to make the user an administrator just to install the software and then make them a regular user again afterwards. This way everything gets created under the correct account.

I would also update to the latest version of Production Assistant from the Sony web site. Here is a link to the download page:

Vegas Pro Production Assistant 2.0.7

Let me know if this fixes your problem.

Thanks, Johnny, that worked. It's off topic, but I also tried to install Ultimate S Pro 4.1 at the same time. The installer baulked asking for Vegas Pro to be installed. Is Ultimate S 4.1 not compatible with Vegas 10b? Thanks again,

If you are using the latest Ultimate S Pro 4.1.4 it should be. If it's not, perhaps something broke in 10b but it worked with 10 and 10a.

Thanks, I found the original zIp file with 4.1.4. I'm now up and running again.

Great! I glad that's all it was.
