Okay so i just purchased sony vegas pro 12, i just received it in the mail today. I installed it fine with no problems, but once i tried to start editing to jump into the features of vegas i realized there was no sound coming from the preview window. I checked the Master Bus and everything seemed fine. I checked my computer volume and everything is fine, can anyone help?? :( Someone told me it might be a codec problem but i just downloaded a codec pack for windows 7 (what im running on) and still nothing. :(

OMG, don't install any codec "packs"! Yiou are asking for trouble. Should have checked here first.
Select the proper audio device in Vegas Preferences.
If you can, I suggest you reinstall your operating system and start over fresh. When you install Vegas, Run as Administrator.

Yes, definitely uninstall it. Unfortunately may of them don't uninstall cleanly and it might require going back to a previous Windows restore point.

What would really help is if you told us about your project. What source files are you using? What file type and codec are they? Where did you get them / what type of camera, etc? There are a lot of systems and cameras out there that make very poor and non-standard file types.

"but what does run as administrator even do?"
It's the Windows User Account Control. If you don't know if your running as a User or Admistrator, Google is your friend.

Yes, uninstalled applications often leave a lot of 'junk' behind. A third-party uninstaller utility is often recommended which can remove the no longer needed registry entries and other crap left behind by usual uninstall procedure. The (free) 'Revo Uninstaller' is recommended by PC World and other savvy PC users.

Two issues:
-- Your Quicktime version could be keeping you from opening the files correctly. Roll back to 7.6 to see if that is the case.
-- Any PVR files (not just Hauppauge) should be run through VideoRedo's "Quickstream Fix" to correct stream errors before opening for editing.

Has Op gone-away . . or realised it was "Muted", perhaps?

Two suggestions for Sony
1) include a short Video-clip with good audio....10-20 sec will do
2) include a half-dozen Sound effects . . . (not for testing the "system" - just to show us what good fellows you are.).
