Let's get one thing out of the way.

This is by way of ensuring some basics are in place. You may have already done it. Apologies in advance if you have. But hey..... I've picked up that you have been creating render files to "other" formats... maybe the Audio selection needs to be re-confirmed. Okay?... Sooooo here goes

Making sure the option to include Audio in a rendered file is correctly set.

START:-
1. Select "Make Movie"
2. Ensure correct "Template" is selected. If not select it.
3. Click on "Advanced Render..." in this "Render As" Menu
4. Click on "Custom" - this is on the same line in the menu as "Template"
5. Now you are in "Custom Settings" with 3 Tabs at the bottom of the menu
6. Select "Audio"
7. CONFIRM "Include Audio" is check marked and click OKAY

Okay?

Hope this helps.

Grazie

Hi
Had the same thing hapen to me a few times, and the annoying thing is I never mess about with any settings. I re-rendered the offending avi files and they where fine after that.

Grazi,
Thanks for the help. One problem: when I click "Custom" I get a "render As"
page that does not have any tabs at the bottom!!! What now?
Grazie wrote on 10/25/2002, 10:36 AM
My mistake ;)

Its: Make Movie > Select "Advanced Render..." and click on it > In "Render As" menu click on "Custom" > this takes you to "Custom Settings" menu - at the bottom of which you should have 3 tabs: 1 Project : 2 Video : 3 Audio. Select the "Audio" tab.

Basically, you need to be in the "Custom Settings" menu. Apologies. I've just done it and I can't see where I misled you - its Friday pm - the Pubs are open. It's been a long week....

Grazi,
I made an error in my last message. I meant to say that when I click "Custom"
I get a "Custom Settings" window, and THAT does NOT have the three tabs at the bottom, unless they are off the bottom of my screen. But I can't move the window higher. Anyway, I fooled around with making an audio rendering and I now have my audio back. Thanks for your help.

Hmmmm.... that's truly wierd. No tabs at the bottom of your "Custom Settings" window. Sounds like a "call" to SoFo tech - yeah?

Glad you have the rendering+audio stabilized again - but I would advise you to get the "tab" business corrected. You may need to access it in the future. Tell me, what size is your setting for your monitor? I'm on a laptop and I have everything in view. My setting is 1400 x 1050 pixels. If I go down below this I'm in trouble with viewing all the screen, but I can still get to the "tabs". Interesting....

This is the Custom settings window complete with the tabs at the bottom. The window is 757 pixels high (at least with my font size settings). You'll probably have to have your resolution set to 1024x768 in order to see all of it. If SonicFoundry had enabled a control menu on the window you would have been able to use the Alt-M move command to push the top of it above the top of your screen.

Thanks for the monitor info. I will try it.You should see the garbage I got from VF technical. They blamed:
1.Programs running in the background(I have a dedicated drive for VF)
2.Drivers out of date. ( my cptr is one yr old)
3.Bad drive-run Scan Disk & Defrag (disk was installed new this month & defraged this week)
4. a virus (I have Norton AV installed & running)

Anything except Video Factory!!!

Re setting resolution, when I try to change from 640x480 to 1024x768 the system returns to the default setting of 640x480!!!Is my monitor inadequate or is Windows not working properly?
Chienworks wrote on 10/27/2002, 8:03 AM
edatwilm, how much video memory does your video adapter card have? How old is your monitor? I'm assuming that you are able to select the 1024x768 setting; what happens when you click apply? You should get a dialog box stating that Windows is about to test your new resolution and that the screen may go blank. Do you see that? If it does go blank, does it stay that way for about 15 seconds before going back to 640x480? Have you tried 800x600?
edatwilm wrote on 10/27/2002, 10:00 AM
Chienworks,
My video card is a Ge Force 2MX/MX400 with 32 MB memory.
Re the attempt to change resolution, after I click apply I get the window you refer to and then a blank screen for 15 secs. Then the original window reappears and the resolution indicator is still positioned at 640X480.
My resolution choices do not include the 800 one. When I try to increase the setting positon it jumps directly from 640x480 to 1024x768.
Chienworks wrote on 10/27/2002, 10:07 AM
I'm guessing that maybe you don't have the correct drivers installed for your video card. Windows is probably using the Standard Display driver, which isn't compatible with the GeForce cards at any resolution other than 640x480.
Grazie wrote on 10/27/2002, 10:20 AM
Chienworks - as we're on "display" issues. Didn't you advise me some months back on getting my display to work? And I upgraded my video drivers? Or am I suffering with deja vu? Hmmmm....

Do think that having a low resoltion and screen "view" is why edatwilm is unable to "see" the set-up tabs?

Chienworks and Grazie,
Let's party! I now have the TABS!!!!
I downloaded a driver from NVIDIA and what a difference! Even at 800x600
the tabs are clearly visible. Thank you so much. You have been a great help.
I read your messages to others regularly.
My first movie has been a learning experience and a labor of love, as my wife calls it. I'm tired of looking at it,but I sure have learned how to use VF. Thanks again.

Yaaahhhhoooooooo.....

I love it when people get what they want!

Edatwilm, you will probably find that other areas of your graphics work will be enhanced as well! Mine were. Brilliant!

Sometimes less is more - that's from Picasso. Now there's a bloke that had the latest graphics drivers always downloaded - eh?!? Nice one "E". Sees you 'round these parts in the future....

LETS PARTY.. PARTY... PARTY.... ALL NIGHT LONG.... ALL NIGHT LONG....

Now Chienworks, remind me, what are the directions from London UK?

"Wouldn't it be nice!" A la Beachboys - circa 1964/5.

Grazie: i dunno, but they probably involve flying in to Laguardia in New York City. I could give you directions from London, Ontario. Would that help?
edatwilm wrote on 10/28/2002, 11:13 AM
Why don't you invvite the VF technical staff and we'll get them sloshed.

SoFO HoHo! .... oooh I feel an early Christmas pun coming on. Do you really think the techies drink? Surely not.... they are probably far to far serious for that.

Hey, we could start something along the lines of: "How many NLErs does it take to change a light bullb?...........

Let's have some real "stinkers" for Christmas Cracker "jokes".

Chienworks I've got an uncle in Toronto. Is that near you?

Not too far, but not close enough. It's about a 6 hour drive. London is about 7 hours and i've been there visiting an online friend a few times.
