No audio playback when creating a new project

Hi,

I am using VMS 10.0 HD and for some reason when I create a new, empty project and add an audio file, there is no sound on playback. The VM meters work but no audio. I am sure that I must have inadvertently set something but I can't figure out what. My audio drivers are setup and working propertly.

I can take an existing project and copy it to a new project, remove all media and start that way, but that's a pain.

Does anyone know what I did or why this doesn't work?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

PS - is it worth upgrading to 11?

Look in Options->Preferences->Audio Device to set your playback path.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format is it?

When you start your new project, which project settings are you using? (Instead of just clicking the New Project icon, go to the Project menu, select New and then select your project settings, ideally to match your camcorder specs.)

In fact, it might be a good idea to look at the project properties for the project you have that works and compare it to the project properties for a new project that doesn't work. The difference is likely the key to figuring out why one works and the other doesn't.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. The default stereo and front playback device was set to S/PDIF which was wrong.

Thanks for the tip!

How about upgrading to v 11.x? What is the verdict on that?

Hi Mike
I upgraded to V11 and, although it cost me about £32.00, I'm glad I did. Benefits are:
No need to do the memory cap fix, V11 can utilise up to 4G of RAM;
the bug whereby stabilised clips turn green after they have been moved off the screen then brought back on has been fixed. This bug caused a program crash;
bug causing a jerky movement on title transitions when smart rendering fixed;
better Render Template dialog box;
altogether more stable than V10.
Hope this helps to make your decision.

Jack - thanks.

Does anyone know when they might release a 64-bit version? Then all the memory issues are gone.
