No Audio Stream with Camcorder MPEG Files

Sorry, if this has been discussed before, but I searched and didn't find anything that helped:

I am using Vegas 8. I import standard definition MPEG files from a Canon SD-card video camera (drag and drop onto my desktop). First of all, they import in the wrong aspect ratio (which I learned how to fix in Vegas), but they only import with a video stream... no audio stream.

I tested out Vegas 9 and it imported the audio stream! However, I do not plan to upgrade just for this functionality (unless I absolutely must).

Is this a known problem with any version of Vegas prior to version 9? No audio stream with MPEGs??

FYI... when I use the ultra-simplistic video capture program that came with the camera, and then import those files to Vegas, the video looks atrocious... so I cannot go that route.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Vegas 8c should read these mjpeg files just fine. If you've got 8, then you can download the free update to 8c

If your Canon SD camera files are .MOD files then you import them (not capture - just pop the SD card into a USB card reader and copy), then change the extension to .MPG

When I have done this with my Canon FS100 they work fine (audio imports as well) except for the aspect ratio, which I change by right clicking the clip, selecting Properties, and selecting 1.2121 as the aspect ratio.

Hope this helps.
