No audio waveforms with Canopus ADVC-100

Hi folks,

I just recently replaced my JVC digital vcr with a Canopus ADVC-100 media converter. When I capture video (with audio enabled) in the Vegas capture screen, version 4e, I don't get the waveforms on the Vegas timeline. But, I can still preview the video and audio fine. Then, when I render out the timeline there is no audio.

I'm stuck on this one. Previous captures with the JVC deck show the waveforms and there is no problem. Is it the Canopus converter?

Thanks

To clarify,

you capture and you can hear the audio after the capture, while editing on the timeline, but you don't see any waveforms or get any audio output?

Speculation: You might have a firewire card issue. I use an ADVC100 with Vegas and have not had a problem. I have read in forums that the ADVC100 does not always work consistently with TI chips on firewire cards (Texas Instruments hardware) depending on the configuration but again, I'm not an audio expert. But if so, I'd suggest replacing the PCI firewire card with another (inexpensive) one rather than giving up the Canopus, because the best conversion you'll get under $500 is the ADVC100, I believe.

Maybe your peaks are just low. I also use the ADVC-100 and it works just fine, even the audio and the waveform display after capturing.

Right...I can hear the audio fine during capture. When I put it on the timeline in Vegas, I can also hear it while previewing and scrubbing. But, there is no graphic waveform on the timeline, and when I render it out to either AVI or MPEG, no audio is there.

I thought I had a hardware conflict, so I deinstalled my USB 2.0 board and reloaded vegas, but it didn't help. Me thinks it's the Canopus hardware.

More than likely the Canopus is fine, especiallly if you can hear it as you capture. It must be a conflict somewhere else. Maybe when you got version 4.0e, it changed your preferences or something else changed in your files. Only guessing, but if you hear if as you capture and it doesn't sound weak or different than expected, the Canopus is probably fine.
