Compaq Presario 5000, Windows XP, 1.2 processor, 256k ram. When I capture video, there is no audio. If I turn my camera on and attempt to just capture audio (voice record), it works. I cannot capture both audio and video. I have "played" with all video/audio settings and just can't make it work. HELP!
Ok, perhaps something is wrong with my software. I should have stated up front that this is the downloaded version. I figured that if this worked well, I would gladly purchase the program. That said, I do not have a "Capture" tab. If I click on Preferences, there is a Video tab ... however, that only shows the software that will do the capture: C:\Program Files\Screenblast\VideoFactory2\SbVidCap2.EXE. Is this exclusive to the downloaded version?
By saying I have "played" with all the video/audio settings I mean through Control Panel, etc. I've checked my audio through several devices and all works ok. BTW, I can record audio from the CD player into the clip also.
As for any success, I can download video with audio using Sony's Pixela software, but it is entirely too limited. I can't get audio with video using MS Movie Maker, either.
Oh, one other thing. I am not using a firewire card, simply using USB. Do you think a firewire card would solve this problem?
Ermmmm . . . "Oh, one other thing. I am not using a firewire card, simply using USB. Do you think a firewire card would solve this problem?"
Straight Firewire here! - No USB! I use 1394 Dell Video Qualified 4-pin port on a laptop. I also use a Maxtor PCMCIA Firewire card offering me an extra 2 firewire ports. The only thing I use my USB 1.0 port for is scanning, printing and now "stills" captured on my Canon XM2 - bit pointless really as I can extract said stills from my video work - Just too much technology!
Now, I've heard that USB 1.0 - as opposed to USB 2.0 - is not fast enough for DV work. I don't know the result of having a slower form of port and that port's "standards" would do to the demanding work of say 4 or 5 mbs/sec required, but I would guess USB 1.0 isn't fast enough to pipe the stuff through your pc - yes? I'm sure others will string along this thread with some valuable scientific reflections on your USB "block". In the meantime you could do a search for "firewire" and what it means to give yourself a head start - for when the responses start to come back to us - yes Joe?
But your initial enquiry that your cammy was NOT recognised as a DV device is still pertinant - hmmmm....
My adivce do some further research on the WEB, see the repsonses here of others, do a search here for the same AND keep it simple - If you find a solution that works - go for it - yes?
Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think the USB ports are the problem. Again, I can capture audio with video using Sony's Pixela software ... it's just that it is so liimited (the software), I wanted something else.
I'm still wondering about your previous post of the "capture" tab. Am I missing something? Could you please give me your specific steps to get to those settings?
Ok, I've had enough. I tried everything. Not only can't I capture audio with the video, my printer prints a page everytime I open the software!
I fixed my problem, though! I bought a firewire card which came with Pinnacle's 7 video editing software which works great.
Thanks for everyone's help!
