I just got a DVD handycam and i downloaded my files using the DVD handycam software. I opend up Vegas Movie Studio to custom make a dvd but when i drag and drop my media file (mpeg) i don't get any audio.

What the issue? I don't quite understand the rendering or if i need to convert my mpeg file into a different format and how i do that? help.

Thanks, much appreciated.

The Handycam's record the audio in AC-3, which isn't supported in MS. The usual advice is to get a new camera (!), but you might be able to use VirtualDub-MPEG2 with the extra AC-3 support. I've had mixed results with it - anything from great to useless. That said, I've used a variety of sources for the MPEG2 - I'd guess that the results would be consistent if you're always using input from your camera, I just don't know what the quality would be like.

If you search through this forum you'll find a lot of discussion on the Handycams and on editing MPEG2 in general, but it makes gloomy reading I'm afraid!

You could also try searching the web for DVD ripping info.

I also ran into this problem however i found a fix or at least i get audio into the MS program now
i have a DCR-DVD100 NSTC and it cam with an image mixer software. i found that if after i captured the video files i right clicked them and converted them into mpeg2 files that when i opened the saved file in MS and i clicked and draged the file up to the timeline i had both a video and a voice line. now i also downloaded a AC3filter (freeware) and i dont know what part this played in the audio showing up but quite franky i dont care im just glad it works and i have both video and audio. try with out the AC3filter first if it doesnt help it may be that was the thing that did it..... hope this helps anyone else that runs into this problem..
on a side note... i have run into alot of these types of gliches every time i start to like this software there is something else that pops up however i have found many forums out there where people have been able to answer my questions..no thanks to the "smooth" intergating of all my sony equipment and software youd think they could get it together...
