No Device Detected/ Device Not Available

I've been using Movie Studio HD v. 9.0. I've imported successfully a number of projects from my Canon ZR 960 miniDV camcorder.

Suddenly, I can't import video from that camcorder. I get an error message stating 'No Device Found'. However, I hear the 'boing' sound when I turn on the camcorder (though I don't see an icon on the taskbar in Win 7). It does not appear in list of devices in Win7

However, I can open and import files using HP video capture and several other media programs.

Therefore, the card and the cable seem OK.

What can I do to get this to work?

In my books I suggest opening the DV camcorder capture workspace (clicking the Capture button and then selecting the DV option) -- then, in the capture workspace, going to the Video menu and ensuring the Microsoft DV Camera and DV option is selected.

OK, I did get the preferences set properly, but it still cannot use it.

The notice now is 'device not available'.

Yet, it will come up using the other programs I've mentioned.

Several months ago, the camcorder loaded up and worked fine.

Are you by any chance on Windows 7 64-bit? There is an issue with the FireWire driver on the 64-bit version of the operating system.

Other than, if you're sure the camcorder is being recognized, you've set Vegas MS up to use the Microsoft DV capture and you STILL aren't connecting, I've no idea what's going on. There's no reason this should not work. Sorry.

I figured it out. Preferences under Options had no checkmark for 'Use external video capture application'. I clicked the checkmark for this and now it works.

I do use Win7 64 bit. My other camcorder (miniDV) was being recognized, so it must be an issue with the Canon camcorder.

(I used on of the third-party training videos, and perhaps it was one of his suggestions to uncheck this box.)

Problem seems to have been solved!
