No display in trimmer window

Today I clicked something (don't know what it was) and the video clips in the timeline which always showed in the trimmer window were suddenly gone and the trimmer window is black. I can hear the audio but there is no video and I don't know how to get it back.

If this is the same as the facebook post that sounds similar but included a video, the TRIMMER window is selected. The Trimmer does not show the timeline video. Instead, click on the VIDEO PREVIEW tab.

Thank you! Another thing - the stereo volume control seen along the vertical edge of the preview window is also gone. How do get it back?
