no "dissolve" for animations?

I am trying to to a title sequence for a movie that I am making. I basically want the title to dissolve in.....and then maybe dissolve back out before the next title. When I put a title or text on the timeline and go to "video media generators" I am only offered about 20 different options for animations (most of them pretty crazy things). I would have to imagine that "dissolve" would be one of them....but its not. It's also odd that I have options for "fly in" and "fly in from right" but no fly in from the left, top, or bottom.

Really, I'm most interested in a simple, elegant dissolve...but that option is not there. Am I missing something.

[I initially did a trial version to see if I'd like the software.....and I did. So I purchased it yesterday. I figured that Sony had left out some features (like dissolve) from the trial version and that it'd appear in the full version. But it hasn't.]

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Greg

Drag one event (not event edges) over the other.

What musicvid suggests will cause a dissolve from one to the next. If you want a fade in of the first .. then fade out .. then fade in of the second .. you'll have to do it differently.

I'll assume that you have your titles on a track ABOVE either a video, or animation, or maybe a non-animated color.

Grab the corner (either the top left or the top right .. the little blue triangles) of the text event. You may have to move your cursor around but it will change to a quarter circle and a left-right arrow. Press the left mouse button and drag inward (towards the body of the box) You will see a "Fade Offset" box show up with some numbers. Also a blue line will appear running from the bottom corner up to the cursor. Drag it in as far as you want the fade to last and release. You can adjust it if it is too long or short. Do the same for the other end.

Now your text will fade in to full and fade out.

And if you right-click when fade cursor is shown, you can choose between the 5 fade options.

In the Help > Show Me How tutorials, "How to Fade Video In and Out" is the first item under Editing Video and Still Images.

Alright! Thanks Brighter and MSmart. I really appreciate your help. When I was searching for help I was looking for "dissolve" (which is what it is called in PowerPoint, for instance) and not "fade" in/out.

I'll give that a try tonight. It looks like it works similar to the fade in/out when you overlap two objects....but you're doing it within just a single object. And it gives you alot more control than an animation from the drop-own menu.

Thank you!!!
