no media in project media window

Just upgraded from Movie Studio 13 to Movie Studio to 17, and I'm running into an issue where even after I have begun a project and have video in the timeline, no media shows up in the Project Media window.

There's no option to change view properties (list, thumbnail, etc) since it literally doesn't seem to recognize there's any media in my project.

Am I missing something basic? I was an intermediate level user of the older version so I theoretically know what I'm doing, but everything I can find by searching online & in forum suggests no one else has encountered it.

Thanks for any ideas! I should mention that when I choose "add media" it will add itself to the project timeline but still not appear in the Project Media Window, though the dark gray border around all the cells does become red(?).

It looks like you have the storyboard bin selected.

Derek - thanks for the quick response. A little bit of hunting uncovered that they had me in an "easy editing mode" by default, which automatically hid the bins tree. A little bit more hunting and I discovered I could switch to "power user mode" which opened up all of the useful functionality of the program.

My recommendation to the creators of the software would be to make the opportunity to opt in or out of the full functionality a little more evident after install.

Thanks for putting me on the right path!
